(I'm the guy with the first comment!) I love Mark's blog - I've got a few pipes set aside to follow some of his experiments on my own. One of the collateral things I'm wondering about is if an APBC will provide enough protection for an old dry bowl interior, or if I need to rub in some oil first. I have a pipe that I was tempted to give a total oil soak to revitalize.

Very comprehensive article. I generally don't worry about burnout. I just don't smoke my pipes that hot. A lot of good tips in there, though.
