I am really starting to like this simple tobacco. Not a ton going on with it, but I find nothing objectionable about it, other than how finely cut it is. It packs easily, stays lit pretty well and has a pleasant taste and room note. It has not bit me yet. In the pouch it smells a bit like butterscotch or caramel to my nose. I enjoy this in my cobs. When it is all burned out it, it leaves no bad odors or lingering taste in my pipes. No bad aftertaste to my tongue either. I may buy can when this pouch is gone. I think I like it about as much as PA, but need to get some more PA to contrast and compare the two. I must be a codger. I have been called a curmudgeon, so codger is ok too.

Last time I had H&H I found it had a very "chemical" taste. Admittedly this was several years ago and I have not brought myself to try it again. Every time I see it on a shelf, the thought crosses my mind and then I walk away.
Glad you are enjoying it, Don. This is one of those classics that almost everyone can relate with. My Uncle had many empty tubs of this in his workshop.

I was expecting it to be pretty simple, and it is. I am slowly trying all the codger blends, just to see what they are like. I like PA a little less than H and H. I tried the regular SWR and hated it. I thought it tasted like burning leaves from the yard. I have heard that the SWR aro is better. Anyway, next on my agenda is Granger and then Carter Hall. I am not expecting any major revelations, I just want to take the codger tour. Since I will officially be one in a few weeks.

H&H has changed dramatically over the years. When I first smoked it the blend still had deer tongue in it. The closest thing I've found to the original is C&D Gentleman Caller, which has deer tongue ( or a more approximate topping) in it.

I never had the older version, but like the present one more each time I have some. Maybe it is just a familiarity thing.

The last time I tried H &H there was a chemical taste. And it had a strange smell. The same thing with Velvet.

Oh, I have some. JimInks constant smoking of it and his review caused me to buy some. I like it. Quite a bit.
