I tend to prefer higher nicotine blends early in the day, and lower nicotine blends later in the day. Do you have a preference?

Maybe I'm unusual, but I really have no interest in nicotine. I saw somebody on YT a while back mention with horror that African tobacco farmers were trying to come up with a nicotine-free variety of tobacco plant, and I didn't get what he was horrified about. To me, that would be a good development: it eliminates one major thing for regulators to regulate about pipe tobacco.
Sorry, didn't mean to sidetrack the thread. My preference is I have none. I smoke whatever grabs my fancy at the time.

Other than the one time I smoked four flakes of Rustica in a Dunhill magnum, I've not gotten any kind of nicotine from the supposed heavy hitters of pipe tobacco. I use other methods of tobacco for nicotine and a pipe to pass time.

I also consume other tobaccos, too, so it's not a big deal either way, but I usually save the stronger stuff for night yime. Also I prefer smaller bowled pipes, so I don't sit puff for hours at time.

I think I've felt woozy from a nic hit precisely once, so don't care if I want to smoke Five Brothers first thing in the morning - am weaseling answers out of Darin one at a time on another thread.

“Nic in the morning, Nic in the evening, Nic at supper time”
I love the heavy Nic blends, preferably with food in the tank.

I'm a bad nicotine addict, so if the pipe doesn't do it, I throw a some other form on top of it. Generally, with the pipe, I go for what I like in terms of flavor and what I can handle in terms of bite. I tend towards getting carried away some times, so my options become limited.

for past 15 or so yrs, heavy latakia blends so little if any "nic hit", so can't further have a decent opinion on the above...best to just shaddup & let others more qualified handle the thread

I can only remember getting a little woozy once when I tried some rum twist dry cured tobacco, the kind that comes twisted up like a cork screw. I didn't like that feeling at all, at all.
I'm not much of a nicotine junkie, I guess.

Nicotine is just a by product to me that I pay no mind to. I smoke what I’m in the mood for as far as flavor, ignore everything else

Being someone who did not smoke cigarettes or other nicotine laden substances (only what the leaf provides), I have no need or desire for nicotine one way or the other. The tobaccos' taste, smell ,smoking's calming cadence etc. are enough for me.
PS There are exceptions to such histories...

I have no Nic addiction.
I can rest my pipes and cigars for weeks on end if need be. But, I enjoy a stout kick. Chimo delivered it in spades, but continuing on that path was not good for my gums.

Without nicotine,,, I suppose its not really tobacco anymore so maybe an herb?.. I fully expect any development of a zero nicotine tobacco to simply become feed stocks for producers that put in a "regulated" amount. Bonus is they do not have to strip it out during manufacturing. For me, I have been on a lower nicotine level for sometime. Medium and slightly above for normal long bowls. High power when I have limited time. That allows me to have coffee and a pipe and get about my day quickly. I think there is a place for every leaf. With so many blends everyone may choose as they desire. For me, nicotine is part of the experience. Without it I notice blends lose umami (taste) too much and it becomes a "punch in the nose". Anyhoo

Without nicotine,,, I suppose its not really tobacco anymore so maybe an herb? This seems a very odd and restricted notion of "tobacco". Again, I don't want to sidetrack the thread onto a different topic, so I'll simply make that observation and leave it there.

Again, I don't want to sidetrack the thread onto a different topic, so I'll simply make that observation and leave it there. I was just thinking that most herbs have flavors but few effects (except marijuana) so my intial thought was, "Tobacco with no nicotine? What is it?" Without nicotine is it plant fiber only?. Yes some fermentation should be possible but is it its own category or is it similar to non-alcoholic drinks?. Then the final question "for what use?" We already have blends from zero nic to wild so except for mass production of .gov regulated nicotine smoking products i see no use for the average pipe enthusiast..(as if any of us are average!)
