My Dad's ashes went into the ground today at our family's farm in IL. Wish I could have been there but it looked like a nice day. He was a lifelong Cubs fan and got to see them win a series, finally, before passing.

Sad to revisit the loss, glad to see that he was interred on land that I am sure was dear to him. That tree beats the heck out of a headstone.

Thanks, Charlie ... it's hard to believe that almost 6 months has gone by already.

A beautiful memorial for him. What kind of tree is it?
Glad he got to see his Cubbies win one.

That's a great memorial even if it's for something sad.
Peace.

Thank you ... it's my hopes to have the same done for me when the time comes. I've occasionally said when my time comes, I'd like to walk out into the woods, sit down under a tree, and go. Picking my tree myself, I guess.

The nice thing is, as you travel back to clean up the tree, you are not carrying out the duties of a caretaker, you are a branch manager, Darin! On a couple levels.

A tree is a great memorial. I hope it thrives and flourishes into the mighty oak it was meant to be. Your kids and grandkids can play in it.

Mighty Oak for a Mighty Dad, so fitting, hope my kids have the whereabouts to do something like that.

Avery fitting memorial much better than a granite slab in my opinion.

I didn't know, I'm sorry for your loss. This is a great way to create a memorial though, may it grow tall and strong.

Thanks again to you all ... truly appreciated. Even though six months have passed, it was sort of a rough week. Not being able to get back there and be with the family was probably hardest.

Thanks again to you all ... truly appreciated. Even though six months have passed, it was sort of a rough week. Not being able to get back there and be with the family was probably hardest. Yeah, I had an uncle pass last summer. Not being able to have everyone around them was hard on his wife and kids, and not being able to be there was hard on his siblings (my mother, for example). Unfortunately, I had to kinda be the one to put his foot down and say no, mom was not going to cook for and host a couple dozen people in her house. Anyway, yeah, not being able to go through the usual rites of grieving is hard on people.
