Good Morning!
While this isn't a new acquisition (yet), I am very interested in adding a Churchwarden to my collection and thought where better to seek advice than the Briar Patch?
Any favorites? All advice welcome!
Thanks,
T

I love my churchwardens too, but, like Scott, I don't smoke mine nearly enough either.

I do hear that quite a bit, people don't seem to like smoking them as much as others in their arsenal.

Beautiful. This is exactly what I had in mind, too. Something elegant and a show piece. Thank you!

I got a Sav 401 churchwarden some years ago. I may have smoked it 2 or 3 times. Not sure why I bought it. It smokes very well but just not my thing as it turns out.

Stanwell HCA comes with a short stem and a long stem for when you want it to be a churchwarden. See WAYS.

But, I do 75% of my pipe smoking in the car, and the long stems just aren't practical. I have a Missouri Meerschaum Shire Cobbit that I do pull out from time to time that I love though, and if you can find one in stock, they are well worth the price.

I can only recommend the Qandale line from Savinelli if you can get your hands on one. It's not a pureblood churchwarden, but a very enjoyable pipe. I reach for it often specifically because it's not that long. I have the oval opera 901 and also the original 601 shape, back when it was still called Gandalf; that is before they got slapped with the lawsuit from the owners of LOTR IP. I sold the rest of the churchwardens over time as I never really smoked them.

A warden of the church, should be using a churchwarden with some frequency, to do otherwise is bad form... I have Stan. and Sav. churchwardens, excellent smokers, worth the money... From what I have heard, the Nording churchwardens are decent smokers as well (I can support this idea, through my experience with Nording pipes in general.).

I love big bowled pipes. I had been disappointed that most church wardens are long stemmed versions of standard bowles. I griped about it here on line and was steered to Neerup pipes. They make quite a few large bowled churchwardens that are really amazing. I highly recommend them.
Churchwardens are in my regular rotation. For smoking at home I prefer the churchwardens, while for travel or drive I prefer not.

It sounds like there is a consensus that a piper should have a churchwarden, but it is not necessary to smoke it as often as he smokes his shorter pipes.
I actually smoked my churchwarden yesterday.

I Think that I must be a pipe owning barbarian, as I own nary church warden nor cob. But since Will moved out and took his pipe with him, I have an empty spot in my pipe rack, and it’s messing with my OCD.

A churchwarden is all one member of the Arizona pipe club smokes. To him it delivers the coolest tastiest smoke compared to anything else.

My impression is that the consensus is you can do what you want and you can own what you want and necessary has got nothing to do with it. My impression, I could be wrong. I think churchwardens are cool, in yer face cool, and a lot of fun. But the truth is I have little or no idea what anyone else should do. I would bet that most pipe smokers do not smoke churchwardens, or rarely smoke them. Which is fine. You'll find your way. Did you enjoy the smoke?

You will not be disappointed with Neerup. I don't have a churchwarden from them, but my Neerup pipe is my favourite.

Never been a sit down smoker so churchwardens quickly fall into disuse. I get it. I do. In my life in general, I don't stand when I can sit. In addition, I don't run when I can walk, and I don't walk when I can ride.
