When I lived in the UK, I bought them often. A great match.

BTW, you need to subscribe to read the article, and I get enough spam so I haven't read it, but you know what I'm trying not to say when it comes to pipe matches

Not to be Mr. Negative, but I hate Swan Vesta matches. About every third box is full of duds - some so bad that I'm convinced I'm using trick matches. There will be no breeze at all and the match will light, then die in about 3 seconds. Other boxes have matches that just snap off 1/2 inch below the head. Still others burn so quickly right down the stick, that you could burn your house down with a single match. Incredibly inconsistent. Seriously terrible matches that I think people like because they've been told they do for so long.

I rarely use them. I go for the cook's matches...

The Wipe Clean Box must come in handy.

I have never used Vesta matches but some guys in the past that I respected loved them. I wonder if production moved to one of the sweatshop countries and QC went to hell? Certainly wouldn’t be the first time.

Yup, I didn't read it because I hit the paywall.
There seems to be some nostalgia for them. I use a butane pipe insert in a Zippo or, usually, a BiC.

Their website says all their matches are made in Sweden from 'sustainable aspen trees', and they literally have an 'anti-slavery policy' you can download. Didn't know they also made Job and Zig Zag rolling papers.

Mostly I use flint and steel along with a little petrol spirit, aka "Zippo" lighter. Tried, true, reliable.

It could just be that I've had bad luck with Swan Vesta matches. I purchased all of mine from the same place, so maybe they just had a bad batch. I'll try them again in a few months and see if there's a difference - I liked the first batch I received.

At my last job, hauling hazardous retail waste, cigarette smokers seemed to be a sticky fingered lot. In the multipack containers one woulkd get pinched, since the store did not have an SKU for individual lighters, off to the flammable aerosol bin, between all them bic lighters, Ronsonol torch lighters, cans of Butane and compromised cartons of matches (Flam solids), I doubt I will ever have to ask..."hey buddy, got a light?"
