It sounds like Russ Oulette is taking a page from Seattle Pipe Club’s “Reserve” blends, and using premium leaf to make a small batch run of Balkan Sobranie match.
From my Inbox from P&C:
“ In 2011, Russ Ouellette was invited to create a blend that was as similar as possible to a 23-year-old sample of Balkan Sobranie 759. This was no small task since the tobacco had changed drastically in that time span, so he had to use some tobaccos that weren’t in the original blend to simulate the aging. He submitted the blend to the Seattle and New York Pipe Clubs, who sponsored the event at the Chicagoland Pipe and Tobacciana Show, and when the judging was done, our entry had won the Judge’s Prize. That blend became one of our top-sellers – Hearth & Home Marquee BlackHouse. Since we were approaching the decade mark of that win, we wanted to do something special. When we were made aware of some very special vintage Orientals, a light went on – let’s use it for a limited edition tobacco. We took the original formula for BlackHouse and substituted the well-aged Orientals for the ones originally used. The result is Hearth & Home Marquee BlackHouse 10th Anniversary. This reformulation of the original has a rounder flavor yet still remains familiar and comforting. This is a very limited production run, so if you’re a fan of BlackHouse and want to try this outstanding special version, you’ll have to act quickly because we don’t expect it to be around for long.”

Thanks Charlie, every time I think I'm out I get sucked back in. I haven't made a tobacco purchase in over a year but I had to get a few of these and of course some others.

You are welcome Ken, I have seen the chatter lately on the forum about someone liking Balkan Sobranie, but was unable to get it...figured it might scratch that itch.

Lots of great memories of the 2011 Show and the Throwdown! Two of my club buddies displayed at the show and another (RIP) was a Judge in the Throwdown. It was IMO the best event I'd attended at the show over the years I was in a Zoom chat yesterday with one of guys who came up with and put on the contest and was reminiscing on how much fun it was. All of the entries were great. I think I still have the "official" samples jarred up in the davecave and should dig them out and re smoke them blind sometime. The Altadis was my pick back then.
It will be fun to smoke the 10th Anniversary up against Black House and Blue Mountain.

I have not gotten around to Hearth and Home, though heard much about Blackhouse. This might be worth a try.

I have not gotten around to Hearth and Home, though heard much about Blackhouse. This might be worth a try. The Marquee line is worth a shot across the board!!! And by board Q does not mean literally a board ("a piece of sawed lumber of little thickness and a length greatly exceeding its width" ... Marrian Webster), but that every blend in the Marquee series is worth a shot..... Not that one would shoot the tins, Q believes that would be wasteful and might leave an odd flavor to the tobacco.......For those of odd taste or peculiar sensibilities, Q would also add try only those blends that fall into the categories you enjoy... By blend categories, Q is referring to Latakia blends, Viriginia blends etc........ If you hate one group do not buy it..... By group, Q means categories..... …..There are more than two possible categories Q left an etc. to mean ..... carry on ...fill in the blanks.... Best Q
