It sounds like Russ Oulette is taking a page from Seattle Pipe Club’s “Reserve” blends, and using premium leaf to make a small batch run of Balkan Sobranie match.

In 2011, Russ Ouellette was invited to create a blend that was as similar as possible to a 23-year-old sample of Balkan Sobranie 759. This was no small task since the tobacco had changed drastically in that time span, so he had to use some tobaccos that weren’t in the original blend to simulate the aging. He submitted the blend to the Seattle and New York Pipe Clubs, who sponsored the event at the Chicagoland Pipe and Tobacciana Show, and when the judging was done, our entry had won the Judge’s Prize. That blend became one of our top-sellers – Hearth & Home Marquee BlackHouse. Since we were approaching the decade mark of that win, we wanted to do something special. When we were made aware of some very special vintage Orientals, a light went on – let’s use it for a limited edition tobacco. We took the original formula for BlackHouse and substituted the well-aged Orientals for the ones originally used. The result is Hearth & Home Marquee BlackHouse 10th Anniversary. This reformulation of the original has a rounder flavor yet still remains familiar and comforting. This is a very limited production run, so if you’re a fan of BlackHouse and want to try this outstanding special version, you’ll have to act quickly because we don’t expect it to be around for long.”
