Hey all,
Bosun Cut Plug was one of my favorite tobaccos, and my cellar has finally been depleted of it.
Does anybody know of a good replacement with that same potpourri scent?
Thanks in advance, Bob

I don't, but I'd like to hear recommendations, too.
Is it just hard to find or did they stop making it? I like Coniston as well, but is very different in scenting. I can't remember which is which unless I smell the jar. I think Bosun is the one I prefer.

I'm not gonna look that hard for it, tbh. If I can find a good replacement, I'd happily switch even if it's still technically available.

You can find it online in the UK, but sadly I think that we are going to see more and more blends become unavailable, so the foreign producers are probably going to keep it over there. I think September of this year is crunch time as the FDA drops the hammer.

It is indeed getting harder to find favourite blends. Sadly we may have to start hoarding as supply is getting short.

I don't believe Bosun Cut Plug has been discontinued, nor is there any intention on the manufacturers part to withhold any products.
Gawith & Hoggarth/Samuel Gawith are relatively small manufacturers, and the time to turn around product is finite.
Since Laudisi (Parent company of SmokingPipes) took over the US distribution from Kretek late last year, they've been placing orders for everything they can get their hands on. Lots of stuff dropped in some pretty significant quantities back February or March of 2021, and was subsequently bought up in buying frenzy, depleting the stocks within a week or two.
I'm fairly certain Laudisi has standing orders in place with GH/SG for additional product. It's just a matter of producing the product and getting it in the pipeline. As to what effect FDA regulations, Deeming rules will have on future availability, that remains to be seen.
Demand for GH/SG product in the US has gone through the roof in the last several years. It's popularity has been driven by more people getting into the hobby, social media and pipe forums pumping it up. I'm pretty sure there will be one more big drop before the end of the year, after that, it's hard to say.
However I doubt that Laudisi would have spent the time and effort to get the distribution, and all that entails, only to be shut down in a short period of time.

It is indeed getting harder to find favourite blends. Sadly we may have to start hoarding as supply is getting short. That has been the case for the last 2.5-3 years... with just about any product. Somebody on a forum or social media raves about a certain product, and vendor's product pages progressively go "TILT" as the product sells out. Vendor's don't stock products in quantities by the metric ton. So when the "alert" goes out online, people are buying it up in 1-5 lb. quantities, and it's gone in a matter of hours. Buy as much as you can when you come across it. It's the new normal.

I tried searching online to find what blends (as of now) have made the FDA cut so as to keep selling, but I came up empty.
I was not suggesting that all G&H blends are going away, but unless you can say with certainty that it was distributed here before the grandfathering date in 2007, the requirements and astronomical costs associated may make some tobacco’s a non starter for a company to pursue getting approved.

There doesn't seem to be much certainty to anything these days. There is a lot of speculation and disinformation being published on the Interwebs.
I'm not a tobacco industry insider, just a user.
The FDA regs seem to be in a state of flux, with lawsuits and court challenges over the last several years. Although the long term prospects don't look good.
Buy it cheap and stack it deep has been my mantra for last few years...

A few years ago I started stocking pretty aggressively the bulks I like, none of them chase blends, except the Lakelands which have been high demand and low supply lately. I'd buy a few tins I like with every order just for putting away. They add up over not a long time. I am fortunate that I enjoy C&D and Stokkebye and Newminster stuff--inexpensive and usually available. Maybe not so much going forward. I'm glad I took the advice when I did.
Also, I smelled the jar of Bosun C.P. It's the Coniston I prefer, but Bosun has its place. It would be sad to see those unique tobaccos disappear in America.
