We got an induction hob last week. It was installed on Monday.
Man alive, this is a game-changer compared to the halogen hob we used to have! Cooking is SO much quicker.

You gonna have to Americanize that hob to a stove I believe, Am I right you’re talking about a cooking apparatus.

I've never even heard of such a thing, but it sounds space age. Are there benefits besides heating speed? There seem to be many benefits. It heats up quickly, it maintains constant temperature (even at low levels for melting chocolate, for example (not that I do that often)), and it doesn't itself get hot - it makes the pan hot, but there is no element to get hot so spillages are easier to wipe up. In fact, you can put a piece of kitchen paper between the hob and the pan and it won't burn. Also, when you remove the pan there is no exposed heating element - the thing doesn't work unless there's a pan on top of it. Clever stuff. You gonna have to Americanize that hob to a stove I believe, Am I right you’re talking about a cooking apparatus. LOL - perhaps so...I must change the title.

We had an induction range at the last house and loved it. Here we have electric and gas cooktops, but we only use the gas and an induction hotplate.

I used Induction cook top in School along with gas, electric. I like it and would check into one if buying.
Congratulations on yours. They are fun and efficient.

Thing is, I was going to go gas, but I was told that, due to the stonework of the house, drilling to put the pipe in might give me a larger hole than I would like, but I'm so glad I went induction.
I already had a few steel-bottom pans, and my mum gave me a few she didn't use, so I didn't need to buy much extra.

I've a cast iron skillet that I'll put to the test later in the week when I cook my steak. Looking forward to that.

What held me off from getting an Induction stove is that I have friends that ended up with a cracked cooktop, one under warranty the second one was not covered. It was newer technology when they got theirs, so I reckon they have a better track record.
My radiant top only needs cleaning when other people cook on it. There really is no reason to have boil overs and sauces burping if you know what you are doing.
Both are better in that they do not produce a lot of heat in the kitchen like the traditional electric and gas stoves. If I had a mansion, not concerned about spending money, and staff to do the cleaning, I would want a Wolf Stove and oven, Sub Zero fridge, etc….

I've had both and the induction still puts off a LOT less waste heat than the radiant. And nothing can burn on the induction surface.

I dunno Ron, I don’t doubt what you say, but the radiant is still far less than a conventional stove. I wasn’t claiming it was better than the induction cooktop.
The absolute lowest is cooking over a fire in the back yard.

On a recent trip to New Orleans, my wife and I took a couple cooking classes on induction stoves. They were great. The stoves were mounted in a stainless steel wheeled carts - with a heavy duty cord, and drawers full of utensils.

I've got an induction oven and microwave. They work excellent st keeping the heat evenly distributed and consistent.
