Activities of the Pipe Smoker

I’ve been trying to doing things with a pipe in my mouth when I’m working at the pipe shop but I find I usually end up setting it down. Most of my pipe smoking is done setting in a big chair with all my requisites at hand watching tv and noodling on the computer.

I generally find it difficult to smoke my pipe while I'm doing more active things, i.e. working in the yard, or down in my workshop in the basement. I do the same as Dave and often end up setting it down.

I am still fairly new to the pipe 2+ years. I do enjoy reading on the porch or just sitting looking off the porch and thinking. But I have found other things burning burn piles is a good pipe time (Balkan) for me works well mowing the lawn usually a cob or two or three. I spent a little time with a sledge and wedge splitting some oak rounds also used maul it helped me learn to clench differently. Really took some doing to learn to swing hard and clench softly. Cleaning up in the garage is also time for me to smoke a pipe.

similar to above, age related. Only smoke inside in one "room" off of kitchen (least I can, wifie's COPD & asthma don't bother her long as not right near her). More cigar related when doing yard work, mowing etc. Yep. misc reading at smoking room desk, always a pipe going.

Jousting!! I assume you have a custom helmet that protects your pipe from lance strikes?

I don't find outdoor pipe smoking all that rewarding, unless maybe on the deck on a calm day. 'Command central'— the big round kitchen table— is where I do most of my smoking. Reading, writing, laptopping, doing accounts, whatever. It's all better with a smoke-stick.

Right now, I'm enjoying the evening storm while sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch and smoking my pipe. I said in another thread, if I'm working in the barn or outside, my pipe is generally in my mouth. Whether it's lit, or even actually loaded is another question. I haven't yet learned to clench lightly while swinging the maul, so I set it down when I'm splitting firewood. Other than that, the pipe is generally in my mouth while I'm working, fishing, or relaxing.

For me it's mostly sitting in the sun (I only smoke my pipe outside in good weather). Generally the wife is with me too.

I know it’s not a surprise for most of you but it’s the office aka golf course for me! Only other place is on my patio which is my fortress of solitude. 🏌️‍♂️😁👍

 That sure sounds good, but I've never been able to master it.  I'll clean pipes ,here at the table , or maybe even dust my collection  as the wife works on the rest of the room. Mostly I'm here at The Patch, or at night I'll settle into the recliner with a larger pipe ,and hope for something worth watching on TV.
  Now and then I'll have an evening smoke out in the porch swing, and let my ears take in the night sounds with the hum of the nearby interstate in the background. I've found that Lancer's Slices is a great smoke for the porch swing; it relaxes me and repels the skeeters at the same time .
  I'm one of those people who can't walk and chew gum at the same time...working with a pipe is out of the question.
