Several years ago I had an interesting opportunity. My mother was an anthropologist before meeting my father. Her area of study was in religious practices, more exactly, the occult. She had written her thesis on witchcraft in America. In the Mission belt of California there exists a branch of witchcraft merging some of the religious beliefs of the predecessors of the Mayans and a kin of what we think of when we hear the term witch. My mother was asked to consult on some of their findings. I had the privilege to go with her to see some of these artifacts and hear of this interesting little known occult sect. A large focus of this sect was their belief in the mystical powers of tobacco, not unique as tobacco has been in use as a tool of many many religions over time. Most of these findings and artifacts were the norm. Stone carvings, pipes, various artifacts from graves etc. But there was one interesting artifact they did not have that came up again and again. The robe of the first tabaccomancer. There is a rumor that we be of the missionary groups took this garment back to Vatican City. Allegedly this robe would conform to its owner into whatever garment made them most comfortable while smoking. How would the rob conform to you? Would it appear as a comfortable smoking jacket? Your grandfathers coveralls? Perhaps just a beloved shirt with a front pocket?

You might want to consult the "What are you wearing?" thread.

I think that it's interesting that your wife has the same interests as your mother. 😜🤠

The part about her being an anthropologist is true, she was going to write her thesis on witchcraft in america but was advised not to, her advisor was afraid it may be dangerous. I think that was just superstition though. My mon did end up doing her thesis on North American Native cultures and their practices. I was the only kid in America who has ever gotten in trouble for playing with the corn god with my gi joes. (we had a corn god effigy in the house amongst other artifacts and such)

Well, since I can't get away with another Big Lebowski joke this week, I'm gonna have to go with this:
It would be long, deeply hooded, like a wizards robe, but made of heavy, well brushed flannel, and quite possibly, it would involve plaid, most likely in a blue and grey color scheme. There would have to be pockets, perhaps a few inside and a few outside. Light enough for summer wear, but thick enough for cooler nights as well.

Sounds cozy, which is what I imagine when having a good pipe.

As far as the garment goes I think that it would be less of a garment in fact no garment at all. A garment that allowed me absolute comfort in all situations but left me feeling free from a garment at all. No one could tell as the garment would provide its seer with the most grandiose attire, one to be envied. But for me I would be baring all and truly relaxed.

Tobacco use was in full swing on the North American continent 8,000 years prior to the Mayans.
