good morning everyone, and apologies in advance for my stream of consciousness style of posting . so i am beginning to run out of my new favorite tobacco "nutty irishman" by cornell and diehl. some of you may already know this but in maine, where i live, you are not allowed to buy tobacco online, so i have to use my local chain "cigaret shopper"; much to my chagrin. so, yesterday because there was no more irishman, i bought a tin of c&d "pirate kake" because i had read that latakia was low in nicotine(?) which now i am not so sure of. is latakia an oriental? more importantly though, i do not like it. i immediately disliked it upon opening the tin and after drying some for a bit and trying a bowl, i was still quite averse to it. so i guess my question is; can someone suggest some brands/blends that are like "nutty irishman" and perhaps explain why it is so much different than the pirate kake? apologies for the super basic questions but there is only so much googled info a 40 year old luddite can actually turn into actionable data.

Always check with Tobaccoreviews.com to verify the tobacco contents when looking for a similar blend to what you like. The two that you mentioned above are quite dissimilar. I've read in reviews that similar tasting blends include: Erin Go Bragh; Cult Abacus; CAO's Eileen's Dream. Your tastebuds may agree.

see if your local B&M has Lane 1Q or something like it (they should). it is a light aromatic, not heavy on the nic, and has been very popular for a long time.

Latakia is an Oriental leaf that has been heavily smoked with woods and herbs. While not high in nicotine alone, it's always blended with others that may be. The Nutty Irishman is a Burley, Cavendish, Virginia blend with a light topping. If you go to Tobaccoreviews.com there is an advanced search that lets you enter those constituents and find other similar blends.

Pirate Kake actually boasts a 75% Latakia content, and is very smokey. Latakia is cured in a unique fashion that gives it a near black color and dark flavor profile to match. It will certainly be a contrast to the Nutty Irishman, which I believe is burley based blend with a light topping.

One of my first blends I purchased after picking up the pipe was also Pirate Kake. Keep it! I hated it at first and it nearly turned me away from the pipe all together but I cellared it for about two years and revisited on a whim and now I try to keep Pirate Kake in my rotation. Your tastes may change!
