I'm very sorry to report that we lost a great musician last night. Dusty Hill of ZZ Top passed in his sleep at age 72. Formerly of the Moving Sidewalks who were popular in the Houston area in the late 60s. A home town band that I never got to see. He will be missed.

This is truly a tragic event. ZZ Top as a group was/is a moving force in true R&R. He and they will be missed. I guess that is what is happening with folks of our age group.
True Texas R&R/blues

Sad to see him go…They had a great run, and as far as I can tell never had internal politics amongst themselves I never saw the movie “Deadwood” even though I have wanted to see it. (Dusty was in that movie) apple.news/AH9aMkDaCROWIdbi4J4UNBgI will have to se if I can stream it. Edit: There was a 36 part tv series and a move, both produced by HBO, neither shows him as an actor.

Loudest concert I have ever been at was the LA Grange tour or whatever it was called in SLC. I forget the date but it would have been 72-78 or somewhere in there.
I used to get free tickets to see everybody, sister dated a DJ. Seen some incredible bands, The Who, Zeppelin, AC/DC, etc. All back in that time frame, and the Beards were so much louder than anyone else. My young teenage ears rang for days after that show.

La Grange is a farming community half-way between Texas A&M and UT. It was settled by Germans in the 1800s and used to be a great town to visit. Haven't been there in years. There used to be a little house just outside town that provided stress relief for college students. I went there once with my brother and waited outside while he went in and got his back straightened. They got a lot of unwanted publicity when a Houston TV reporter decided to "expose" something that everyone knew about. You might have heard of "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"? It really wasn't anything special, but it made a fun play and an even better song. blog.chron.com/thetexican/2015/06/zz-top-to-literally-play-la-grange-in-la-grange/

The capacity of the venue that the trio will play is said to be right under 20,000 so you should have room to breathe.” A great deal.

But this was 2015 when Austin was still a neat, if communist town. I was there working while this was happening. I used to love to go to Austin. 😢 I did see Willie in luchenback.
