Well, I'm a relative newbie to cigar smoking, but when I asked about a good cigar forum the replies I got were, "post here!" So, here goes... It took me a long time (most of a box) to figure out how to properly cut a cigar. I've used double guillotine, scissors, a punch, and a v cutter. The punch I just bought because I figure every smoker should have one -- I don't use it often. My favorite is scissors (Xicar). Anyone have any advice, or should I just soldier on and figure things out as I go?

I use a guillotine cutter. I try to take offal little as necessary. I prefer a V-notch cutter. Need to get one of those. My son took his along when he moved out recently.

I buy pre cut cigars! And they are cheaper too! 😜

I used a guillotine for years, recently I've started using the punch more often though. For smaller ring gauges, the punch is great. Haven't tried a v-cutter yet, but I hear good things. Ultimately, it's going to come down to personal preference.

I have many cutters. I like punches for when i’m out. I have scissors, but I rarely use them anymore. At home I usually use a cats eye cutter. It takes a little practice but once you get used to it, it gives you a pretty pleasant smoke.

I use a xicar cutter and clip as little off as possible. I like v-cutters as well but don’t use them all that often. Punch cutters I am not fan of as I always get some tar buildup where I punched.

I'm fairly new to cigars also. I have a bunch, but mostly smoke my pipe. Anyway, I bought one of these, Cuban Crafters Perfect Cigar Cutter Works great and takes a lot of the guess work out of it. I also have a V notch cutter. Still need to get a punch though.

I prefer an open draw and use a guillotine cutter right up to where the shoulder starts.

It depends on the cigar. Most often, I use a Shuriken cutter which provides a nice, even draw. The main drawback is that it'll split the cap on a really dry cigar or when the blades get dull. The rest of the time I use a guillotine, and cut off a piece somewhere between a mina and a dime.

I have a few cutters. V-notch, Single guillotine, scissors, and double guillotine. My favorite, and the one I mostly use, is a Cuban Crafter's "Perfect" double guillotine cutter. It works great on most cigars, including figurado's. I have not used a punch.

I've used guillotine cutters, and V cutters, and even sliced the ends with my pocket knife. My favorite shapes are Coronas, or Lonsdales for which I'd use a V cutter. For torpedoes, and perfectos (if they can be found) I'd use a guillotine cutter. Simply slitting the end of a corona or lonsdale with a pocket knife works when nothing else can be found. Crude, perhaps, but it works.
