We all have one that we would kill for. Well, maybe we wouldn't go that far, but you might consider selling your wife. So, what is yours? What is that one pipe that you would do almost anything to get your hands on and why? Let's see them... with pictures if you have them. Mine is simple. It's an old pipe that was up for auction a few years back. It belonged to The Crooner of course.

I guess I'm like a lot of guys on the look out for a birth year pipe. A 1952 Dunhill would be nice but I'm not hung up on make. Most focus on the Dunhills because they tend to be easier to date.

There are so many, in fact I can't single out just one. Besides if I told anybody, I'd have to eliminate them.

Well, being that they are becoming increasingly hard to find, I suppose mine would be a Peterson Sherlock Holmes Baskerville, fishtail bit and smooth finish. Cliche, I know, but I have always wanted one of those. It would be my at-home-only pipe, for nice evenings. I have had a few chances to snag one, but always let the price tag scare me off. I have a tough time justifying pipes that are over $200. But, for that one, or a nice morta, I might be willing to bend.

It's interesting to me that I have never really thought of it. I don't think there is a pipe out there that I HAD to have. I guess if I have to have input it would be a commissioned, blasted bulldog by Paolo Becker. Mike at Briar Blues had a beautiful one last year and it was going for $1,000. I just couldn't justify the cost.
Otherwise I probably don't know enough about pipes like you fellas to know there is something out there that I SHOULD want.

Hi There are a few mostly from Denmark (like Preben Holm's Private Collection , Nobel Prize etc.) and the USA (Italy is a real close second 😁.England probably third 😁.). Among American carvers, I have the longest history enjoying Randy Wiley's pipes, going back to his days at Edwards. Recently, I purchased a new Wiley Ovation W5 at a incredible price. Ovation is Wiley's top of the line pipe and W5 is the highest grade of the Ovation series. I contacted Randy and he remembered the pipe. Though he was not sure of the exact number of W5 Ovations he made through the years, he guessed somewhere around 13 pipes. Considering how many pipes Randy produced, that is a very small number.
My Ovation has an interesting history as well. It was owned by Moty past (& somewhat controversial) owner of the James Upshall pipe company. Karen, the wife of Moty, told me he bought it at first sight and truly enjoyed great pipes from around the world. Looking at the Ovation,I can understand why Moty purchased this pipe.

I am too new to have a "holy grail" pipe, but I bet if ya give me a year, I will come up with one. I do see a bunch of old estate pipes that really catch my eye and once I start collecting a few, there is bound to be the one that is just out of reach.

A Michael Parks pipe. He is Canadian (not that that makes a difference) He makes some beautiful pipes. The next pipe or first be, be that may, would be Jesse's Barling, a long stemmed beauty, or a Bing pipe, that too is long stemmed.

I “ must “ add the two Dunhill Pipes my grandfather left for me, they are only smoked on a half dozen special occasions annually. They will be going with me in my travels once my time is up here on Earth.

My holy grail pipe would be any pipe that catches my eye and I can afford. I like too many pipes to choose just one. I have artisan pipes and basket pipes, and they all smoke just fine, but if not, I sell them or give them away. For me the constant search for something new or different is my joy. I'm waiting on a E A Carey Magic Inch pipe right now, so I guess you could say that's my holy grail pipe at the moment.

Good question for which I have no answer at the moment. In the past year, I have acquired a 1926 Dunhill, an Ascorti, a Peterson Kapp-Royal, 2 Edwards, A Søren Refberg Rasmussen, a Preben Holm and I have two Ben Wade freehands made by the Preben Holm factory on the way. I also have a silver banded Salmon & Gluckstein made between 1890 and 1915.
I guess my holy grail(s) would be a 1953 Dunhill and/or one of the new high end Savinelli like an Autograph or Giubileo Oro.
On the other hand, I don't have an old Chacom, Charatan or any of the Ivarsson pipes.

I found a 1943 RB large Billard on SPC , my birth year, rare find for WWII Era. Decent smoker but not great. Not complaining, just the truth. It’s the pipe on the left.

I own several holy grail pipes, birth years, limited editions, commissioned by me, rare shapes, pipes with provenance, and pipes made by some of the great names in pipe making, but the one that probably is highest in those is owning one of Bo Nordh’ personal smoking pipes he made, a Tomato shape with Buffalo Horn accent. banjo

A smooth straight Dunhill 1960 bulldog, but most importantly, a Peterson 4AB, which is the model Basil Rathbone smoked in the Universal Sherlock Holmes movies.

Thanks, Ted. I got lucky with this one. I think I paid $225.00 for it. It was in very smokable condition so a great deal as far as I was concerned.
