$11.00? Haha, I am facing custom charges of 79% tomorrow! And I thought WE had it bad at 40%! The bummer in my case is the exchange rate; 1 US$ equals 12.81 ZAR today

I was hit for about 150% custom charge here in the UK, my first order was not charged, I am not paying & it will ship back to the States, paid by customs I presume . The office wallah said there was no one in the government office to complain to by phone, letter nor email,& I was told to speak to some foreign government MEP it was EU law, hence Brexit!!!

I might grab some FVF. Not much of a VA fan, but FVF is one of those "Burley" type VA's.

Aah, the joys of dealing with your government! Everyone in the customs office was near panic today when they heard that I would like to import smoking tobacco. None of them had a clue and I suggested that I would come back the next day which they gratefully accepted. Not even my 79% will pay nearly enough for two officers working for hours on my meager amount of tobacco. I wonder when the administration will realize that they are throwing good money after bad money. Well, if they ever learn....

Do they use the invoice and charge 79% of the invoice stated price? If so what keeps someone, say me for example, from sending you tobacco with an invoice from "Crapgame's House of Smoke" and the blends are either sent in bulk and renamed "crapgame's blend #1 and tins are relabeled the same way and the invoice shows each tin cost 2 USD and the bulk cost was 3 USD?

Today I returned to the customs office to accept full fianancial punishment, but hey, the gods of governmental charges were smiling upon me! When I entered the office the senior officer approached me an said that his colleague Ms Soandso had worked hard on my goods and they came up with an alternative way to declare it. He talked about a "lump sum approach" or the like and in the end I only paid Euro 38.00!!! He even repeated what I said the day before and that it was a gift or swap with a friend (which it was) and that no business had been done. I should keep the documents and show them if I should ever import tobacco. A different officer might see thing different but I can try. Well, those guys don´t have always heads made of concrete! mike: There is no surefire way to do this and ticking the "gift box" was always the way to being charged to the max. They had a hard time finding out what to charge and even asked superior positions for a realistic price. The best is still to play it straight and hope for the best.
