Just to add...For a year in the pandemic, the only places that would offer a place to take a piss is the truck stops. Many states shut down dining rooms , and the only option was the drive through window...not happening in a big truck. A lot of guys ate off the roller grills and bagged deli items from the grocery store, when the populace still got their goods for the most part and had good meals at home.
It has sucked big time for the over the road guys, of which I am not.

I understand what it was like Charlie. We can't use the drive through either. Yeah, but when you punch out and head to your car, you can go wherever you want, or the RR livery service can go through the drive thru. A trucker with an ELD cannot start the truck or it breaks the rest, and the truck doesn't fit. Not to minimize the challenges RR workers face, but it is different.

Yip had me some top ramen tonight like a kid with a Arizona tea Picked up after work. Won't eat at the Diner here and it's the only thing open after 11:00 untill 07:00 in the morning. I have stopped the train and walked up to the drive up window at Wendys in Redbluff but only North bound. South bound blocks crossings.

It has always has been a job with much stress and responsibility.
When I see a forty foot trailer being backed into a tiny space off the street with traffic about, I appreciate the calm skill of the driver.

I don't know what RR or ELD stand for, or what 'break the rest' means.

Always had a fascination with trucking. I've watched countless Youtube videos of truckers showing their new rigs, mods, their day to day, etc. Pretty interesting stuff.

Dealing with the morons on the road and off...gotta take nerves of steel and patience of Job to be a OTR driver...if they are hauling a tanker or a "parking lot" you better have some serious insurance and a lot of patience.
OTR= over the road Parking lot= automobile carrier Job= check your Bible
So yeah...big appreciation for those drivers

My daddy was a truck driver which is property why I like the old songs, Phantom 309,Giddy-Up-Go and all that. By the way, Phantom 309 was a true story, and I have seen other truck drivers put themselves at risk because of some idiot in a car. Here is a story about a hero truck driver in Houston just a couple of years ago. tiremeetsroad.com/2019/07/07/houston-area-semi-truck-driver-a-hero-drives-off-ship-channel-bridge-to-save-others/

Always think of highways as infrastructure. Need to remember they are largely there for the trucks running on them.

I don't know what RR or ELD stand for, or what 'break the rest' means. RR= Railroad ELD= Electronic Logging Device, electronic logbook hardwired into the truck. Break in the rest = at 7 hours 59 minutes at the most, a commercial driver must log off and shut the truck down for 30 minutes. At the end of a combined 14 hour day with maximum of 11 hours driving, the truck must shut down for 10 hours.

Thanks. What if you don't? Well, my dad fell asleep and ran off the road into a bayou with a load of dynamite. Seriously. I was driving a car but working over a hundred hours a week and fell asleep and ran into a semi head on. Bad things actually.

RR no breaks only rest after 12 strait hours unless you get done early (HA) those water trains they made us work 16 hours on. They just lost to the Federal Government $10,000 fine per person they made work over 12 hours thats only about 80k a day fines for a few weeks.

I have a good friend who is now retired that was an OTR trucker. Seemed like he was never home. Made a good living while he did it though.

If guy hitched up with a woman that can drive, and they could get along in a 24/7 situation, they can make serious bank hiring on with the right outfit...ten or 15 years and they can be pretty well set. I know a couple that pulls down 300K every year doing so. Our linehaul drivers at ABF routinely pulled down some great paychecks. And there are the "drivers" out there that will work for chump change...never figured them guys out.

Surprised he has a CDL then... He does. He actually makes decent money I guess for having all his issues. Right now he's making 60-70 plus benefits with insurance, but until recently he was lucky to get $14/hour.

Chick Fil A I believe pays 15-16 dollars per hour. A CDL driver is subject to civil lawsuits that can put them on poverty row for life. I would rather be a chicken flipper...
