'lectricity around here runs about $280-350 depending on whether it is summer or winter...Dec. brings the "sure charge" for Christmas lights for the City. Being as the 'lectricity is owned by the City, there ain't no choice but your own generator or bite the bullet..tried going to the State Utilities Comm...they laughed and said "good luck". Private ownership is a bitch.

Bummer to see those kinds of monthly electric bills . . . $67 here in WA Where in Washington has a lot to do with the AC bill. Or if you even have electricity or AC. There is nowhere in Texas that you can have a 67 dollar electric bill in July.

Private ownership is a bitch. Ours has always run about the same since we moved to an efficient home in 2005. This house isn't efficient, but the low rates from the co-op made up for it last year. This year we are looking at a higher efficiency AC and insulation.

I am seeing everything increase, the inflation gains made this year have wiped out the wage gains over the last four years. I wonder what the cause isā¦. š Pandemic shortages I think. And working from home has proved out so corporations are making that easier and workers are moving further out of the city. Driving housing costs up as well. I know in California there was an extreme shortage of building materials because mills shut down during the pandemic. Drove what materials were available sky high.

Yeah, have a friend in Wenatchee next to the Columbia surrounded by power generating dams; her bill is in the twenties I assume no AC. With AC the highest all summer was $48. But . . . they are within 15 miles of two major hydro projects on the Columbia River. Water mostly comes down from Canada. Pretty crazy.

I watched a derailment once. The wharf section of Alameda, California. Home to the Alameda Naval Air Station. Southern Pacific locomotives pulling a long string of cars, slowly, down the Warf road. Somehow the Engineer missed the turn in the road and the train kept going down another street. While I was looking at this, two cars of Southern Pacific Railroad Police showed up. They walked up to the Engineer who said in a loud voice for all to hear, "Don't you say a fucking WORD!" I got a chuckle out of that.

just to add something, just paid our NationalGrid electric, $81.90. Lights go on somewhat earlier, mainly cause wifie don't see too good. A/C only used twice during last billing cycle & not too long. Supposing name of provider, size of house etc decides. We think ours is decent considering

100 yr old house, cut in half and hauled over 10 miles to my farm. Had attic and crawl space sprayed with expanding foam. Highest bill during the hottest Month is 200$, with 4 ton, AC, 2 freezers, 2 Refergrators, one in barn holds overflow, 2 supplemental window units, one run during the day to keep kitchen cool when she cooks, one in our bedroom for sleeping to take the load off our 17 yr old Central AC. Iām very happy with it, most folks around me have bills over 500$.

We don't have any insulation in the attic and no soffit vents. We're trying to get that fixed, but no luck so far. We're looking at a roof coating that will cut attic heat gain by 98%.But the electric energy surcharge has gone sky high. IIfyou have hydro or nuclear you do not have that problem. Our co-op can use either coal or natural gas. Both are expensive right now.

We have coal/gas/renewable power at our homes in Wisconsin and Arizona and our bills are always fairly high but stable.

Has anyone else had their electric bill go sky high? Last year we were getting a 370 dollar electric bill. This year they are $570. I just spoke with the rep at the co_op and it's because of increasing fuel costs. We are using the same KWH. Judas Priest Man! I pay around $60- $70 in the Summer and $150 in the Winter and I thought my bill was high with SWEPCO. Time to change electric companies if ya can sir.

Private ownership is a bitch. Time to move or unplug that Iron Lung Walt, that's outrageous. You must have something sucking up the electricity. I don't hardly even use lights here unless it positively necessary.TV and computer are the only major things that I use in the house of course besides the frig and a couple of clocks. My shop sucks a lot of electricity with all the major tools and A/C and my bill isn't even close to that.

Your house is probably well insulated. This house was built in 53 and it was never insulated. We're working on it. I have several projects that will cut it to below 300 by next summer and make it more comfortable. We've spent all summer hanging around waiting for contractors that never show, but we have no choice. The living room ceiling radiates 90 degrees in the summer. We had to run the central air plus 3 window units all summer. It adds up.

What with the City owning the electric plant...they charge whatever the hell they please as you have no other alternate to it.

My electric bill is on average USD 7.50 bi-monthly, admittedly I don't have AC but just try and beat that price.
