More butternut burley in a new to me WDC Hesson Guard prince...then on to butternut burley in a Commodore poker-ish pipe also new to me. The Commodore was either a Comoy or Charatan second...but good briar.

Another beautiful pipe. I have always loved the Lovat shape, and am glad I finally picked one up earlier this year. Wonderful smoker.

Basil Meadows made a great pipe. They had just enough handmade character and they always smoke great.

October 9th.
I opened a tin of glp union square last week and decanted it into a mason jar. I have just started pulling bowls out Last year I had a tin of this blend and decided I didnt like it. Unfortunately I had two more tins that I decided to stick back for use in winter. When it is cold you can not taste blends very well and the reasoning was to open the tins when I couldnt taste the blend so much using up my stocks and saving better blends for better temps. Well I am going to admit a year on the shelf has helped the blend a lot. It is still a bit too mild but the flavor is much improved. I use my smallest bowls to help add punch. (small bowled pipes are more intense while large diameter bowls are mellow as a general rule.) I am pleased with the prospect of getting some good bowls from the blend. I also pulled a bowl of semois out of its storage jar yesterday. About a year and a half of quiet resting did little to the overall flavor profile except for a noticible increase in sweetness. As you may expect that is welcomed. Used the old vauen classic for that bowl as semois leaves a ghost that lingers a long time so old work pipe is the best method. I decanted a tin of escudo this week and pulled four coins out so far. It tastes so good it is hard to leave it to finish airing out!. my experience with escudo has been less than good. I know there is an amazing blend in the tin but I could never get it to run correctly in a bowl. fast forward to now and I seem to have finally learned how to prepare and burn the blend correctly finally proving to myself that there is a great flavor profile hidden within. Have the pete kinsale bulldog (xl13, the old hudson from the sherlocke holmes collection) filled with two coins resting right now for a bowl this afternoon. sparkplug, navigator, union square, escudo, orcilla, a bit of mixed scraps from tin bottoms and my last Q1 all are decanted and I pull from them to suit my mood..Yes I have that many blends open at once..lol..what can I say except I like variety! hope you all are well!
