Mot of us are law abiding citizens who appreciate the job the police do. We like to make jokes about them and criticize their choice of official vehicles. Some of you will remember the Dodge commercials of the 1960s and early 1970s. Here is a Poh-Lease Department I can get behind with their choice of Pursuit Vehicle.

I'm sure they're at least having fun driving around town in little convertible sports cars.

^^^^I just want to say we could use more law officers like that one (Sheriff Joe W. Higgins). We understand each other!

In a few Arab countries they have special police units that drive supercars! Seems like a rather niche criminal to invest so heavily in catching.

MGB's are a blast to drive. I had my grandfathers 1980 MGB for almost 20 years. I gave it to my brother in central Florida a few years ago, as he can drive it year round. It was a nice road trip driving it down to his place.

It's how I knew when the first Miata came out in 1989, that was the car for me. I think the first and second gen Miatas are the best British sports cars ever made.

We all know that in the 1960s both Toyota and Datsun built roadsters superior to the English marks. No one wanted to admit it but the truth would not be denied.

Having worked on several English cars I knew it right away. However, the English cars were very easy to work on because they had to be.

We got the concept right, but I don't think we've made a reliable frigging car in our entire lives, which is why the Elise you want has the Corolla engine

I've always loved those early Miatas. A a friend has one, and has said something similar to you. A neighbor had an old Datsun 2000 Roadster that looked pretty cool as well.

I almost died one night in a Datsun 1600 roadster. Those old Japanese electrical systems weren't very good, but the mechanics were very good. I was driving a friend's car on old highway 290 (2-lane) going to Austin. A Cadillac came over the hill with his high-beams on and I flashed mine at him and the man electrical system died. On a curve. On a moonless night. With gravel shoulders. At 80 mph.

That's why the 89-04 Miatas are the best cars ever made - all of the goodness with none of the headache.
No matter what they're driving or how much they spent, you never see anyone having as much fun as you. Every drive. All the time. The cheapness is a bonus.

Actually, I remember everything tightening up.

I can say I quit drinking and driving back in college when I woke up in my CRX. Doing about 70. Backwards. On the wrong side of the freeway. The only casualty was my radiator when I frantically bounced back across the median to rejoin the northbound lane and punctured it.

I had a very good friend in h.s. who died while driving drunk, a couple of years after we graduated. Still remember when I got the call.

Back in the early 1990's I was traveling on I 84 between Scranton Pa and New York State. After a fuel stop I was on the get on ramp and there was a bright red late 60's Mustang with a huge carb and blower sticking out of the hood sitting there. Inside the car was a Pa State Trooper with a radar gun. I had my dad's car and he was a retired cop and he had an FOP plate on his car so the trooper was willing to tell me how he came about that car for speed enforcement. It was a car seized from a drug bust and it was REALLY fast... there was a 429 under the hood. It wasnt a Boss 429 under the hood but a 429 none the less. The trooper told me that the dealer used drug money to build and race drag strip cars and the state police had several other drag cars from the seizure made barely street legal for speed enforcement.

For a while the Texas DPS was using stripped Camaros with the biggest engine. Before that it was Mustangs with Shelby engines. Last I heard it was Chargers with the Hellcat engine. They don't have a lot of them. They only use them on problem stretches of highway. Like 1-10.

www.policecarwebsite.net/ is a site that has pics of the cop cars in your state, city or province. For example, here's part of the page for Texas DPS vehicles: Or maybe you're on a road trip, and want to know what they drive in the states through which you'll be traveling: The MGBs are probably in the shop.
