New pipe smoker, but an old man. I retired from the NYPD in 2003, after 20 years. I spent another 10 years as a Harley mechanic, now working in a BMW/Ducati and metric brand dealership. Have a Springer Classic, a Street glide and a BMW R18 Classic. Couldn’t pass up the BMW with incentives and employee discount. I love reading history books, especially concerning the world wars I and II. I finally am getting comfortable with my pipe smoking, at first I huffed it like a cigarette. I now benefit my pleasure with proper cadence, retrohaling and packing/lighting the pipe. It was quite the learning curve. Having given up cigarettes, I will allow myself to partake of a pipe and a few different Islay whisky’s. We have 2 golden retrievers, one of which loves the smell of aromatics, he climbs on my lap to take it in. I find I like English blends the most, I am addicted to Kramer’s Father Dempsey. Your info on pipe smoking has helped me immensely.

Thank you for your service to the community, I cannot imagine what it must have been like from 9/11/2001 until you retired in '03. Glad you were able to end your watch on your terms and pursue a craft that keeps you humming along.
Welcome to the forum!

adding welcome/greets from 50miles East of Buffalo, NY. Really old timer with chats/forums etc since first got a computer in '01. Dedicated lata-holic for past 16yrs, no "theme" to pipe collection xcept all stems are lucite (no time or desire to play with de-oxidation of rubber ones). Lots of good folks here for help if asked for.
Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY pipe/cigar since '62 81 next month, if enuf folks allow me to!

Yes I remember the days flying over Normandy, but that is a story for another day, as I see a more pressing need at hand.. You state plainly, to your credit, that you are addicted. Luckily, you have only spent a few years with the pipe. Research illustrates that in most cases, such addictions are better solved sooner than later. Being addicted to Kramer’s Father Dempsey is no crime. Still a number of us have felt the shame with each puff, not knowing what to do or where to turn. Thank goodness, we have the Briar Patch!!! As many here can testify, the road to recovery takes a while, though it first begins with admission. You my brave Brother of the Briar (BOTB) have taken that step. Second, one should divest oneself of all addictive materials. Lucky for you, I am an expert and am qualified to burn Kramer's Father Dempsey until all that remains is ash. These first two steps are instrumental in continuing the TAD program . So please message me to obtain the address & further information as to where & how you can send & package Kramer’s Father Dempsey for immediate incineration. Welcome to Patch!!!
