I just tried to remove the stem from my Butz Choquin billiard, and it's stuck tight ...I'd hate to snap the shank on this old friend, so I put it in a plastic bag and placed in the freezer to spend the night. Keep a good thought, as i keep my fingers crossed ...sometimes this works, but sometimes it doesn't ...it's a horn replacement stem, but the replacement was done way back in the early eighties ,and I take the stem off as needed; but no luck tonight!

if that doesn't work, hold the stem wrapped in your hand to warm it. You might want to put a bit of wax on the tenon once you get it free...

Fingers crossed for you! I've only had to cycle one of mine through warm and cold to loosen it up. It accumulated too much goo and glued itself together.

Huh. Good luck with it. Be a shame to damage the stem - or worse, the shank.

The freezing process did the trick. Briar and horn have parted ,and await cleaning. I got up to let the dogs out, and just had to check on it.

Whew! I thought you were going to say your basement flooded. I'm glad the fix worked. That trick has worked for me, too.
