This is fun. I can fit five + myself around my round dinner table. Here is my current roster for my "perfect dinner party"...
Thomas Jefferson William Shakespeare Marcus Aurelius T. E. Lawrence Crazy Horse
CH might be bored to tears b/c of the deep cultural gap, plus being surrounded by white-eyes. I could replace him with Robert E. Lee.
What's yours?

Hmm...
Abe Lincoln David Hume Bill Evans Rebecca West Natalie Portman
It doesn't dip very deep into human history, but it should make for interesting dinner conversation.

That should be interesting to listen to, and make me feel pretty simple...

I'd prefer earlier Hemingway, before the TBI's really kicked in. Really just to understand him more...

Parker and Twain. Gonna be a lot of laughing at your table. And pipe smoke... I think Hume and Evans were both pipers. Pretty sure I've seen photos of Evans with one, but it could've been a prop. Lincoln wasn't, but I feel like he wouldn't turn down a Canadian or Liverpool loaded with Presbyterian. And Rebecca West would try anything once.

Both my Grandparents, and Parents. , I know I”m common. I'd do ANYTHING to have a dinner with my 4 grandparents together. If anything, just so their great grandchildren could meet them. The 4 of them taught me more about life than anyone else ever could. Salt of the Earth.

This is kind of fun to think about. Though many of my heroes I only know through their public persona, and in truth, they might make terrible dinner companions.
And then the realization that, again, in reality, I have nothing in common with the folks i would list, and they certainly would not find me fascinating.
And lastly, I have had the good fortune to interact with a few folks of amazing talent, intellect, and/or creativity. And it has not been my experience that talent of the caliber that makes one a household name also makes one an interesting dinner companion, or even someone fun to spend time with.

I got invited to have a one on one lunch with Steve Wozniak a few years ago. They couldn't believe that I turned it down. I tried to explain that we had nothing to talk about.

My list would include folks who might have an engaging discussion among themselves. James Madison Thomas Aquinas T. S. Eliot John Locke Johann Sebastian Bach I am a firm believer in trying to maintain order in an otherwise chaotic cosmos.

Eliot John Locke Johann Sebastian Bach I am a firm believer in trying to maintain order in an otherwise chaotic cosmos. I very nearly put Madison on my list. That guy was kind of a boy wonder, doing the things he was doing when he was 21, 22, 23. As Founders go, he's my top pick. But I didn't want 2 politicians, and Lincoln would be more entertaining at a dinner party. If I were organizing a political theory salon, Madison wins.
