This is a staple for me. I just ordered about two dozen cans of Canadian and German smoked herring filets. I cannot afford smoked salmon but herrings are still available and affordable.
I just wondered if anyone else loves these little fish?
Great with eggs or rice or on toast.
Filled with heart friendly oils.

I bought a tin of the Nova Scotia fishies, but I haven't been able to bring myself to eat them. I think I will probably like them.

Either one has a taste for smoked fish or one does not, eh? We used to catch little Smelt with a Dip Net and smoke them. Little bite size fishes. I used to go out to the northern California coast and buy smoked salmon from the Indians. I enjoy them all but others do not.

Just had a tin for lunch the other day, with crackers. Yum. I like regular sardines, too.

I've never had any of the usual tinned fish.

I don’t think I’ve ever had smoked herring. I’ll have to try it sometime.

Used to work with a guy that still had his fishing rights with gill net and boat. If we fished like that we would go to prison for a long time. If a seal came after the fish or got in the net they could shoot em. He used to give smoke Salmon away to some of us at the sawmill.

I'll devour smoked Salmon, but thats the only smoked fish I like. Anything else has to be fried, grilled, pan seared, or raw.

I'm not a fan of fish. I don't mind the off cod or salmon or tuna, but I'd never order fish at a restaurant.
That said, I've never tried smoked herring, so maybe I'm missing out.

Haven't had any for years. Thought I bought some recently for a homemade pizza, but it turned out I grabbed some that were not smoked. They weren't good at all.

You can buy blister packs of smoked mackerel or trout in Irish groceries. A couple of rolls, the fish, and a small brick of cheese make a great field lunch. If a pub doesn’t serve food they don’t mind you eating it there. That and a pint of Smithwicks make for pure satisfaction.
