At first I thought, '12th of March, that's great advance notice....' but then I realised you mean 3rd of December.
I do quite like these pipes.

Sorry about creating a similar thread, I could have swore that MgTarheels post was one I received in an email.π
Jim sent me an email earlier today, so I made a post without looking.
Itβs called getting older.

I'm glad to hear that, I read Jim's post about them on the other forum. QC has sucked on normal factory Pete's for a while now. I've had trouble with the 2 that I have but was able to fix them myself. Mind you, they were only in the $100-$150 range. Such an iconic shape and limited amount (500) deserves to be done right. And I'm sure they did just that. If I had the spare funds, I'd grab one without thinking twice. Happy smokes to anyone that's able to snag one

"Hey, we QC'd these ones!"
That's a novel approach to brand management.

Not a bad looking pipe, but I'm not a fan of limited runs just to drive the price up. If they decide to bring it back as part of the line at regular prices, I'd be interested.

Nice pipe, but more than I want to spend usb to pretend I look like Sherlock Holmes. I'd then have to go out and buy a deerstalker, cape and stick. Oh well.

Did the alleged pipe ever show? I see SP has a Sherlock Holmes Natural Original P-Lip for $334. But I'm not sure that's the 4AB JimInks was referring to.

Yes, it was a SNAFU. Pipes were made available after normal people went to sleep, and were all sold while they remained asleep. In fact, some were double-sold, as I found out this morning in an email. Their customer service response to the problems was typical SP....basically: tough luck, go away.

Disappointing performance on SP's part. I'd call that one a bungle. These sorts of problems start with upper management - they create the attitude of their company's customer service. Whoever is in charge at SP is bungling things, and it's filtering down into their customer service policies. Just as an example, I used to frequent a local coffee shop that had a horrid, rude manager. But she always hired sweet, friendly new employees. I would watch as they slowly turned into mini-versions of 'her'. They would watch her be rude to customers, subconsciously take in that information as the preferred behavior, and then begin to morph. SP does not care about customer service - period. They sell everything quickly and could care less about repeat customers. I'm fairly certain that when I receive my 4AB, which I have been eagerly anticipating for two years, I will look at it the same way I do my 2017 Houston Astros memorabilia - it will make me sick. This might seem like an overreaction, but I hate dealing with crap companies, and once they've screwed me (which SP has now done twice), I just want to forget they exist. I bought another pipe from SP over a year ago - a white whale amber-stem spigot. It was missing the advertised back-up acrylic stem. Rather than give me a miniscule refund, they basically said "tough sh*t". They did offer to take it back and I complained such that they eventually offered me a discount coupon on a future purchase. I kept the pipe, thought of their sh*tty customer service every time I laid eyes on it, and eventually dumped it at a large $$$ loss.

I've yet to have a problem with SP, but I haven't really needed their Customer Service dept.
It definitely sounds like they pewed the scrooch on this one.

I've yet to have a problem with SP, but I haven't really needed their Customer Service dept. It definitely sounds like they pewed the scrooch on this one. I have had to call their customer service five times. Here's the break-down. The problem I have with them is that they are unprepared to do anything to fix problems, unless it's super-easy for them. - POY double-sell. Result: I'm screwed
- Pipe missing advertised spare stem. Result: I'm screwed
- Pipe being shipped to wrong address (not fixed). If you ever ship something to a different address, their stupid arse-sucking software makes the new address the default. In this case I called as soon as I noticed the old address. All that they had done was prepare a label - it didn't get shipped until the next day - but they refused to change the address.
- Pipe being shipped to wrong address (fixed). This happened two more times, as I often send tobacco to people as gifts, and it just doesn't cross my mind that the address will become my default. They were able to change the address over the phone. They'll fix a problem if it's easy for them to do, but no extra effort will be put out.

I have had to use customer service once. A pipe was delivered to someone else's house (USPS employee misread the name of the street!) and they were totally willing to replace it.

It's always interesting to talk about customer service. If a company screws the pooch on customer service issues 1 out of 15 times is that too much? If you have two or three (or less) customer service interactions, the odds of having a bad one or almost nil. So what's too many? In my case it's been a lot higher than that, but I only buy pipes from them. I'm sure tobacco purchases are much simpler and more difficult to screw up. Also, easier for them to rectify. So yeah, most everyone has no complaints, as the odds of having a problem are low. I just got "lucky".
