I thought they were funny, and would like to get a set. But $25 for 10 boxes of matches? And, they're sold out!

I get my matches at WallyMarto— a buck and pennies for 10 boxes.

I like the old Mexican matches. I haven't seen them in years. They were small but wax coated and burned great.

I was so frustrated by the degradation of quality in US made matches. I would take a box of Diamond Strike Anywhere and Maybe, soak the wood in paraffin and then in hot wax. Trying to make something which lights!
I wrote the company years ago and complained. They responded that the STATE OF CALIFORNIA had forced them to change the sulfur on their match heads for some inconspicuous and less volatile formula.
We are likely in agreement with how that has worked out.
It seems the wooden match has gone the way of manual transmissions in trucks and men in Hollywood movies.

I also prefer strike anywhere matches (aka Lucifer matches), kitchen size. Hard to find on the west coast and way overpriced on Amazon. Anyone have experience with emergency (camping) matches?

The way I understand it is that due to the “strike anywhere” nature of strike anywhere matches, some people that create regulations for transportation figured that it was an unacceptable hazard.
When I picked up hazardous waste at grocery stores and there were matches, to transport to the letter of the law, they were suppose to be put into buckets, submerged in water.

Long time ago I sent a fellow on this forum, who shall be nameless over 100$ of tobbaco tins and 60$ cash, he sent me 2$ of matches and spent the rest on fried chicken, how do I know, he told me, friend no more, now it’s butane lighters, DONT want to subsidize Fried Chicken! This said person said he could get me Mexican matches, so I ponyied up and got the Shaft, not the first time. Fool me once, you know the saying!

Because of all the terrible transportation tragedies of the trucks bursting into flames and burning down Portland?

Some knucklehead somewhere probably smoked in a trailer with matches onboard, but spontaneous combustion was the culprit.
