I mainly smoke English blends. Any suggestions for an aromatic with a little body and a decent nicotine hit? I tried Lane 1Q and absolutely hated it.

KBV Mountains of Madness Wilke #400 That sounds good, but looking for an aromatic. As for English blends, my favorite so far is Father Dempsey’s.

One can also cut a weak in the nic department with five brothers to app it up a bit.

Mac Baren Vanilla Roll Cake. It tastes like excellent vanilla that doesn’t overpower the tobacco. It’s probably my favorite aromatic, other than the big Lakelands. Similar to VRC, and even better, is Gawith & Hoggarth Bob’s Chocolate Flake - but it’s not as readily available. It has a slight hint of Latakia, but just a HINT. Stellar stuff.

Those are good aromatics, BCF especially. Not sure they have the nicotine hit he's looking for, though.

It’s not like most English blends are nic heavy either. But, VRC and BCF are at least approaching medium, I’d say. They also taste like they should have more nic, because you can actually taste tobacco.

One reason I don't do a lot of aros is lack of nicotine. Let's face it, I'm looking for a fix. I bought Stanwell Jubilee as it was listed as a non aro. It's pretty heavily topped. C&D Autumn Evenig has a touch of N. Also Peterson Royal Yacht and Uni Flake have a kick and are quite topped.
I second Old Black Magic. Ernie talked me into it and I later ordered more by mail.

I smoke very few aros but my favorite of the bunch is Rattray Bagpiper's Dream. Top quality leaf with a cognac flavoring that is delightful and an aroma to die for. You won't be sorry with this one.

Now that sounds good! I will give it a shot, thanks! I didn't try any of Ernie's offerings for a long time since it used to say on the website that the delivery must be signed for. I have never had to sign for any shipment from him. Not sure if that statement is still on his website. Anyway--if you do not know where to find it, here's a link: watchcitycigar.com

I will right away order up some black magic. I will put the others on my list. I just savored a bowl of Seattle Plum Pudding.

Ooooo! How could I forget! War Horse Bar! That's a big, chewy, plug of nicotine, with a topping not unlike a Lakeland. Not exactly Gawith sauce, but totally in that vein. Deliciously powerful stuff.

Probably haven't had an aro in over a year, with the exception the occasional Black Cavendish or Frog Morton....
Tonight I got a hankerin for some Molto Dolce. Glad I did, great smoke for sure.

Royal Yacht is considered an aromatic, but not what comes to my mind in that regard… it can be a stout smoke.

I really tried to like it, but after numerous attempts, at different ages, it was just always sharp and unpleasant.

I don't really dislike Royal Yacht. But I still have my or jar from 2014 and I don't remember the last time I smoked it.

Molto Dolce, Sutliff Vanilla Custard, Solani Sweet Mystery X, Tewksbury Hobbits Weed come to mind. I’m surprised Monty hasn’t chimed in yet. He’s my go to guy for all things aro.

I have the Old Black Magic on order. I’ll put the other suggestions on the list. I’d like to be able to smoke an aromatic that I can enjoy around people. My favorite tobacco blends are Father Dempsey’s and Seattle plumb pudding. I think these blends are more offensive to people. I have tried Sir Walter Raleigh and Prince Albert and they are tolerable to me, but not satisfying. I can’t stand Captain Black, any of the varieties. I have Lane 1Q, I smoked it when I first got it and hated it. A month later it is tolerable, but that’s it.

Haha, Ron. It's an aromatic VaBur flake. Flavored with treacle and a couple other flavorings, but it's been a good seven years since I've smoked any.
Worth noting that aromatics work on a scale. To me personally, if I don't taste raw tobacco and I can taste cocoa, molasses/treacle, vanilla, and various sweeteners this is what makes it aromatic. One can argue that Carter Hall is a mild OTC VaBur aromatic. Some folks can't taste all the sweetener, PG, and cocoa and molasses but it's still an aromatic. Some folks even claim that Carter Hall as an example has absolutely no casing or flavorings, which is absurd.
A purist take is that 99% of pipe tobacco today is aromatic.
