Might be interested in the HH series, whenever it comes out. Personally, I don't like Capstan enough to pay $70 for it.

Otherwise, I would buy Blue and cellar because of the uncertainty going forward.

Just a great crop of Virginias that year, apparently.

A bit pricey for three years old. And while I sometimes enjoy Capstan Blue Flake I wouldn't pay that for ready rub. I still have a couple tins in the cellar and that will do me fine.

At USD 18/tin vs the regular USD. 16.85/tin on Smokingpipes, it really doesn't feel like a bad deal. More than anything it seems like they either are testing a new price point or they have back stock that they're looking to promote. Ideally, all tins should be aged to where the seller feels best fits the blend before distributing.

Capstan has gone up quite a bit over the last year. It does age really well and compared to current prices the $71 isn't that bad. In my opinion Capstan doesn't get really good until 6 to 8 years on it. Unlike many other Virginias Capstan doesn't get a lot of crystals on it during the aging process. It is definitely a staple in my rotation.

Both good points, I just bought most of my tobacco before on in hindsight were great sales of the past with free shipping and no taxes. Not needing to buy much over the last few years, I am behind the times on paying attention to prices.

I am having trouble figuring out the search engine on Tobaccopipes.com. I want to be able to search the gift sets because Im interested in the HH set once it is available, but I cant even find the Capstan set without using Charlies link...

Yeah, these sets don't seem to be indexed in their search, yet. At USD 18/tin vs the regular USD. 16.85/tin on Smokingpipes, it really doesn't feel like a bad deal. Ideally, all tins should be aged to where the seller feels best fits the blend before distributing. Didn't realize Capstan prices had gotten that high. It hasn't been nearly as long since I bought my couple of tins as it has since Charlie bought his, but I don't think it was over $15.

I remember a couple of years ago everyone was going on about average tin prices being at USD13 and seeing this as pretty steep. I'm guessing @olded could tell us about when hamburgers cost a nickel but still.

Our groceries and utilities are running $600 over last year. That extra $200 in SS next year is going to help very little.

Brand new Capstan blends are $16.85 per tin currently and so it would cost $67.40 to buy all four of these new. $71 to buy them with 3 years of age.

Capstan upon initial re-release in either 2013 or 2014 was already $14-15 per tin and the most expensive tins sold on smokingpipes. Even Escudo back then was $10-11 per tin. C&D tins were around $8.50, but I'd have to go back and look at my receipts to verify.

Thanks, I was unaware of that. But then again, rethinking it these are marketed as gift sets, maybe to gift someone new in the hobby. I think it was J. Mouton I heard saying that about 2013. Specifically, it’s the spring (March and April) 2013 tinning of the Gold that was made with a magical crop. I have heard this from the mouths of Mike McNeil McClelland), Steve "Pipestud" Fallon, and some random guy at a pipe show. I can also personally attest to it having smoked several tins of it. It is so good, that I have managed to cellar 24 tins of March and April 2013 Gold Ready Rubbed with a few of the tins costing me $30. It’s that good; it’s worth the premium.
