Other than a few months last year when I used Bics (just for the experience) I've been an Old Boy user for 10 or 12 years. I thought I'd share some tips and tricks, and I'd be interested in hearing other people's tips and tricks too.
When I first started, I read somewhere that it is not necessary to turn down the flame adjustment when filling. I have found this to be untrue. If you don't turn down the adjustment screw, the flame gets smaller and smaller as the fuel level gets lower. If you do turn it down, the flame stays at an appropriate height until the lighter is almost out of gas.
After filling the lighter, set the flame height where you want it and smoke a bowl or two. The flame will get smaller. Then adjust again until the flame is where you want it, and you're good to go. I don't know why this is -- I've tried multiple solutions with no luck.
It is not necessary to let the lighter sit for five minutes after filling. One minute is plenty.
When replacing the flint, give the works a good scrubbing with a toothbrush dipped in alcohol. If you don't the lighter gets clogged, even if you're using premium butane (I use Colibri). This doesn't happen rapidly -- it takes years -- but scrubbing the lighter is easy and takes care of this problem.
I've never used anything but genuine Corona flints. Flints are inexpensive, so why not use the best?

Thank you for the tips. I mostly use my zippo these days as it has proven to be the most reliable. I’ll give the flame adjustment truck a go the next time I fill my Kiribi.

I stopped using my Old Boys and got hooked on the IMCorona Pipemasters. I like the electronic ignition, the larger fuel tank and the longer tamper. I bought my first one years ago and I have had no issues at all. I do have 2 of the same style as I lost my original and bought another. This is my first one. My second was a cool gold one that a retailer was giving away for only 104.00. Next was another deal I had to have. I decided to call it my beat around lighter. I bought 4 of this next model, one for each kid. I also had to grab them as PC was selling them at 113.00 and they retailed for 185,00. How could I not grab them? Lastly I couldn't pass on the deal this next pipe was offered at.

I clean the metal parts of my Old Boy with Everclear every time before I need to refill it which is about every two weeks. For butane, I use top quality Xikar Purifine. For flints, Zippo flints work just fine. Easily bought locally, less expensive, and just as good as Corona flints.

I used your tip on filling my Corona and it worked perfectly. I also used Everclear for a bit of cleaning. Thanks for the timely advice.
