I have been keeping my eyes out for a birth year pipe, and finally found one that I really like. It arrived yesterday, and I am quite happy with it. A 1974 Dunhill 197 Shell Briar group 4 long billiard. I'll try to get some better pictures later. Thinking of what to smoke in it first.

Sweet. I'd probably do the birth year Dunhill if one presented itself, but I wouldn't go out of my way looking. But that's I, so you enjoy and happy smoking!

Congrats. Smoke your favorite in it first. Maybe, only smoke your favorite tobacco in it and dedicate it? If you have a favorite yet, that is.

I have yet to find a birth year Dunhill that I like. I would even take a 1956 which is my sister who passed away too early. Hell I would even take my moms a 1933 but they all seem to come with those metal things which I hate.
I want a group 4-5 sized LB Billiard from 1957 which is me or one for my sister who was born in 1956. We were really close and she died way too soon. I swear there are times when she taps me or screw with the tv. I miss her a lot.

Haven't found a Birth Year, but do have my Inception year... 8-) Puffy Nice looking pipe. The bent bulldog shape has been growing on me more and more lately.

My favorite has changed a bit over the years, but has mostly been in favor of English blends with a healthy dose of latakia. Nightcap is current in the rotation, and at the top of my list for the first smoke.

Looks Good! Nice crisp clean lines with a really good blast! Looks like pro did the restoration. The 197 is a very elegant, Bing like shape.

Very nice! And congrats on finding it. I'm not actively searching for a birth-year pipe, but I do keep an eye out when I peruse the new estate pipes on SP, etc.

I would delete this post, but it would result in me being accused of running up my post count!😝

I was very lucky to find my birth year (1952) tan shell several years ago. Enjoy yours.

I never set out to collect Dunhills, but somehow I now have eight of them including birth year, high school graduation year, and wedding year pipes. What year they mark is a good rationalization for buying another one. 🤪 At some point, I’ll probably end up with a college graduation year pipe. Here's my birth year 1964 Root Briar group 4 Billiard. I got lucky finding the trifecta of my favorite shape, size, and finish.

Very nice pipe. I was originally after a birth year Peterson, but they are harder to date as the silver marks tent to wear heavily. I started looking at Dunhlls as they were much easier to date. I've managed to pick up three over the years. My new to me 1974 long billiard, a 2007 5101 straight apple Rubybark, as well as a 1928 billiard Shell Briar that I bought for $10 a few years ago at a local antique store. I've seen a few from my wife's birth year, and have been tempted. Now I'll probably start noticing anniversary and graduation years as well. :D

Here is a pic of the pipe I want. This one is a 1966 LB. To my eye it is the best looking Billiard ever made. It doesn't even matter there is no ring grain but the shaping is insane.
