Happy Monday. Ersatz Edgeworth in a MM Pride. The Sutliff Edgeworth Ready Rubbed MATCH blend is likely the best match blend on the market in it's closeness, and I'm also in the camp that agrees it's at least equal to or better than Lane's original. Since it's been a while since I've smoked both back to back, why not? I used to get a bit more of a "baked goods" thing going on from the match and more of an acrid, deeper burning molasses from the original.

2014 Sutliff Edgeworth Ready Rubbed match in the same MM Morganton Caroler 2021 limited edition Christmas cob.
The 2006 original ERR is certainly declining with age and with being an OTC style cased/flavored burley aromatic. Still tastes good but comically I'd pin it's flavor as being "molasses plastic." I don't really mean this to be derogatory, but it tastes like molasses, and plastic.
The nose from the jar of the 2014 match with this much age is now coming nearly identically in line with that of the original. A sour note of the too old toppings, molasses and cocoa. They both smell great.
The taste and aroma of the Sutliff match ERR readily wins, hands down, in complexity and smoothness. Again, I'm greeted with a profile of molasses, cocoa, and almost hints of allspice and baked goods. This one always reminds me of "burley baked goods." Seven years of age on this match has not made the toppings decline but I suspect they'd start decline from ten years onward. I do think it's a great match and that it's even better than the several different years of Lane's original I've sampled throughout the years.
