Enjoying a glass of 2014 La Tremenda Monastrell (Spain) as I prepare dinner. It scored a "92" back in 2016 - too bad I didn't drink it then. It's past it's prime now - but still pretty good.

Three fingers of Redneck Riviera, country singer John Rich’s bourbon. Pretty smooth!

I am not a wine drinker, but it seems tobacco and wines hit a crest on age and start fading, with all the varietals in each it keeps you on your toes managing the cellars! They do reach a peak fairly quickly these days. It didn't used to be that way. Years ago they needed to be aged to "mellow", but today, 90% of the wine produced is expected to be consumed immediately or within 3 to 5 years. (Five years is stretching it in many cases.) The producers adjust the juice before fermenting to produce a drinkable wine sooner. No one wants to store a wine for several years before it's drinkable. Today, in general, a wine will improve for ~2 to 3 years, a few, maybe 5 years, then start falling off. If it took 3 years to peak, then 3 years after peaking it's barely drinkable. This La Tremenda Monastrell is somewhat of an exception - to still be a fairly good wine after 8 years - maybe because I kept it refrigerated. That slows aging.

Quite interesting!
Maybe that is why some wines extracted from shipwrecks in cold waters have brought insane prices on the market? Or do you reckon that is people with too much money, and less common sense?
My niece with a chemistry degree and her husband were rising stars in the Napa valley, vintners clamored over them to be consultants to their wineries. They were pretty much rock star couples, but the marriage failed because he was into cocaine, and the marriage crashed and burned. She became deeply alcoholic, got into a drunk driving accident, killed the other person and she committed suicide. Had she been able to avoid them problems, it would have benefitted the industry for years to come I suppose.

Indeed, Scott... my brother (her father) had just talked to her on the phone, and they agreed that they would work through the accident. His phone rang a few minutes later, her boyfriend who was out of state saw her with the handgun on his remote feed to his cell, my brother tried calling, rushed over and found her with a headshot wound, high caliber pistol. I was worried as all get out for him, a lot of prayers helped him to get through that time.

A Martini (stirred, not shaken), probably not as "dry" as most, since I'm using a proportion of gin to vermouth of 1:1. Two olives, twist of lemon zest over the glass. Local Brazilian gin, Martini brand "Extra Dry" vermouth.

I just want to say I never met a whiskey or whisky I did not like. Does this make me a drunkard, someone with low standards, or just an amiable and unpretentious guy, or all of the above? That is for you to decide! Maybe "adventuresome" is the proper description.

It's part of the apparently unsolvable problem in the U.S. of having a firearm way too accessible for one's well-being.
