Note that Stoli is Latvian. Thats what they say, but if one reads the label on the bottle, it is distilled in Russia, then transported to Latvian where it made into Vodka. The way I read it. This is a subject of interest to me since I drink it and have enjoyed it since it was first introduced in the USA back in 1970 or so. It is a story complicated by the long feud and trademark battle between Yuri Shefler, a Russian expat, and that Putin guy. As of now, and I may not have this exactly right so do not assume I know what I am writing about ( ) there are two Stolichnaya vodkas produced and distributed. One made in Russia and one distilled and bottled in Riga Latvia. Shefler owns the SGI Group, a Luxemburg based company which bottles in Riga. It may or may not be initially distilled in Russia and it may or may not contain Russian grown grain. There are at least two labels floating around as of today. THe trademark infringement battle goes on and on. Both of these labels were sourced from online liquor sellers TODAY. and From the Stoli.com website (Shefler) After purchasing the struggling business in 1997, Shefler transformed Stoli® vodka into a global vertically integrated company. In 2000, in one the first examples of the regime identifying a valuable asset and attempting to wrest control of it, Putin waged a battle for Stoli ® vodka trademarks across the world. This is still ongoing in some countries. Yuri Shefler left Russia in 2002 and has not returned since.
When all else failed, the regime established FKP Soyuzplodoimport (also known as FTE Soyuzplodoimport), a Russian state-company created in 2002 to attack trademark rights around the world. Based in Moscow, FKP sells an inferior Russian product called Stolichnaya in very limited markets. The product is easily distinguishable from Stoli® Group’s as the label clearly states made in Russia. Stoli® Group has no connection to this product in both production and ideology. FKP may not sell their product in 150 countries around the world, including the United States, where we own the trademark rights and where only our Latvian produced vodka can be lawfully sold.

I have lately switched to Seagram's 100 Proof and Smirnoff 100 Proof. Both made in the USA. It is simply grain alcohol with no ageing and multiple distillations. Tito's is another good Texas Vodka. I am not familiar with Tony's.
Looking for Polish Rye Grain Vodka but it is hard to find in these parts.

Unscheduled re-stock day. Picked up a bottle of Redbreast 12-year (they also had 21-year and 27-year versions. At $410 and $550 a bottle!) and Jefferson's Ocean. Had to sample them both to see if I still liked them!

They have become largely bland.
I remember when Russian Stolichnaya had the most wonderful flavor. It came out when kept in the freezer. There may have been a higher rye content. I hope to try a Polish Rye Vodka soon to verify.

The sample gal offering tastings at Albertsons had Busker Irish whiskey out to sample. $17.00 for a 750 Ml bottle of a smooth whiskey, so I grabbed two.

Had a bit of Redbreast and Jefferson's Ocean with the boys last night. Good for us to all get together. Been a while since the four of us were all together in the same room.
