I just finished Atomic Adventures by James Mahaffey. Very interesting book with lots of first hand experience in nuclear physics, more than you ever wanted to know about cold fusion and the truth about what landed at Roswell in 1947.

Y’day read THE PHANTOM FLOTILLA in one sitting. It documented the events that inspired THE AFRICAN QUEEN film, altho very different facts. Fascinating stuff. I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. (Since it’s about the Royal Navy I can’t resist giving you the Irish words to “Rule Britannia” — “Rule Britannia! Britannia waives the rules!”)

Red Sparrow, watched the Movie while reading book, as always book was better, but movie was good. Interesting how we spy and they spy, seems like everybody has their ways.

Bernard Cornwell's account of an Archer at Agincourt with King Hal.
Learning so much about siege tactics. Could come in handy when I have to collect irrigation dues from the deadbeats.

Picked up an old favorite I haven't looked at in many years. Forgot I even had it. The Jefferson Bible.

Just in case you decide to lay siege to your neighbor with your longbow? He also wrote a book called Agincourt that is from a slightly different perspective. But basically the same story. Both good.

It's a quick read. I remember thinking that it was missing a lot, but I was raised on the whole butterfat King James.

A question for bibliophiles that buy books from Abebooks.
I have used Abebooks for years, great prices and often free or cheap shipping. The last several times I headed to checkout with books that are advertised free shipping, ridiculously high shipping rates are applied. To the point, that it is cheaper to buy a new book of the same title through Amazon.
I sent an email to Abebooks asking about current policies in that regard, I never got a response.
Wondering if anyone has had the same experience?
Edit: never mind, a problem that was persistent in the past, seems to be resolved.
(I would have just erased all of the post instead of adding the edit, and just typed in a . but when I do, it triggers RonV) 😉

I typically post from a phone, and In the past, I saw no delete option.

A book I read as a kid, on a whim I looked it up: “Mr. Pines mixed up signs” bought it online, read it with my granddaughter, and she really enjoyed it, said it is her favorite and wants to read it for show and tell.

Mostly the seller- "Toledo Owl". Very reasonable shipping prices. It seems most of the books are ex-public library.

I haven't used Abe books in a long time. Few times I checked prices were higher than Barnes or Amazon. And if something is out of print they really try to s***w you.

I've been working my way through Anna Karenina for a couple weeks. It's somehow the first Tolstoy I've ever read, I think, other than maybe some letters or a short story here or there. I understand the praise.

Bowman of England by Donald Featherstone. Everything you could possibly want to know about the English longbow and what a bowman could do with it.
