Yesterday it snowed and sleeted in my neck of the woods here in Carolina.About 3 inches on the ground..I got up this morning to realize that when I moved into this house back in the summer I didn't bring a snow shovel..The good news is it should be melted by tomorrow.

My younger brother moved from Northern California to Ohio, the first winter he got there he was all excited to buy a snowblower, he seems to enjoy stuff like that.
I think momma dropped him on his head when he was a baby.

I grew up in Ohio (first 10 years, Great Lakes region) and family moved to California. Not planning to return. Winters were hard, really hard.

We had mostly an ice storm here. Power went out yesterday around noon. Came back on around 10 am.
Being as our home is total electric, made for a chilly night

We got a quarter inch of snow a couple of nights ago. Luckily it was gone when we got up. If we don't get anymore I'll be fine.

Been up in Buffalo visiting family since Thursday. We got a bit over the weekend and then got walloped last night through today. Almost 2 feet on the ground. Postponed my return to Philly by a day.
I don't mind the snow, but I also didn't have to shovel it.

I do miss snow skiing since moving to Florida. Once I stopped skiing it was an easy decision to make.
My last run I was doing around 65-70mph when I caught an edge and went down hard. I tumbled and tumbled and when I finally stopped I thought I broke all kinds of bones. I am a good skier and never wiped out like that. As it turned out I did break a couple of ribs and had multiple bone bruises. I hung up my skis( Atomic Carbon M5's) that were 205cm's so they were long. I was a grand slalom skier but could still turn fast enough to ski moguls once or twice a day. I just preferred GS as I could go faster.

So still down and sox inches or so in the mostly shady spots. Only the sunny fields are clear.

I live on 2.25 acres on the side of a hill, a steep hill. The backyard is all untouched douglass fir and sugar maple, with some silver birch here and there. Oh, and the remnants of a 100 year old apple orchard that yields softball sized mealy tasteless apples. Climbing up the hill.
We just got a couple of days of snow, and it really makes by backyard wonderful. A post card.
I am lucky enough to not have to smoke outdoors, yet days like this, I like to bundle up and go out back and just have a smoke and look at my trees.

dusting overnight. Still much accumulated in the less open spaces. Our back yard is ringed with trees so it has good snow cover. The fields are clear owing to solar exposure.
Hoping for greater deposition in the upper watershed where it really counts.

We have been sick on / off for weeks. Finally we are healthy enough to go to church. Woke up to 6" of snow. Glad we can watch over the internet, but it is still not the same as being with others.

Sorry to hear that, John. I will pray for you and your family… when you start racking up sickness by the weeks…. That’s a tough road to travel!

Glad you're all feeling better and hope all continue to recover to full health. Yeah, the snow can throw plans off course. We got an inch or two this morning, more coming tomorrow.

I know that it is all relative to where you live, an urban setting has more resources to clear the roads etc… I grew up in Colorado, Germany, Kansas, but as a kid I never had to deal with driving in it.
Does six inches of snow constitute a hassle to get out on the roads in your locale?
I was in Colorado last month and there was easily a foot, but I was in a 10 wheeler with chains and I easily plowed through it, grossing 36,000 lbs.
The guys running the plows for the state are greatly appreciated!

A mild sunny day. THe first days in weeks without long underwear for warmth. We often get mild days in mid January. Then it turns cold again before Spring. February can be harsh.

Warmed up here, today. 50 and sunny, with very little wind. Very different from the last few days.

Temp is presently -18F, in Northern IL. We have between 3-6"
The most entertaining is that we have footprints in the snow on the garage. I am assuming the squirrels did this.

Seems we were on the outs again. 5 inches to the south and north of us. A dusting here as winds displaced the clouds. COld enough. Down to single digits at night. At least on the PLUS side of Zero.

Nothing like meeting in person. I assume there's also nothing like waking up to 6" of snow...Something I've never experienced.

Here in Greer, SC, we got between 6 - 7 inches...and the last remnants of it is still melting on our front lawn! Just north of us in our county, friends got 10 inches. Unheard of! I'm looking forward to spring!!
