I have a 2 oz chunk from a trade I made. I just couldn't make myself buy a full pound of this one, so the trade offer worked out nicely. After reading your reviews and notes Zach, I'm going to spend some time with this one over the next few days. pepesdad1, I'll bring you a chunk whenever I make my way down again.

I think my honest opinion is that a majority of folks wouldn't really care for Folklore. It does get a bit muddy and it is somewhat a bit average and flat, overall. I've smoked about 15 bowls since yesterday of it.
It's really not bad, but it's also not something outstanding. It's going to change with age and it's a fun experiment and I'm just a huge C&D fanboy.

My goodness, he is getting long winded in his old age! 😁 If you ever wondered how many adjectives one could put in a single sentence.... Reading his review has to be better than actually smoking the tobacco.

Reading his review has to be better than actually smoking the tobacco. To be fair, he put a lot of work tweaking it, and it is his baby. It would be akin to Jay Leno approaching me with his crew and asking me to consult on what I wanted. The result would be a badass car that drives like a bat out of hell. I think that it is beneficial to us all in the final analysis. Does it trip everyone’s trigger? Probably not, tastes are different between us all, but I think we benefit as a whole on the collaboration. And I wish I had the ability to partake in an exercise like this one, and looking forward to the same in the future.

My difficulties with them are already on the record. No need for me to bring them up again.

Jim has a way with words that no one else can match.

I wouldn't step on Jim's toes and he's been a personal friend for a decade but I have had words with him over his reviews and our differences on what we taste in more blends than I could name on the spot. One thing that he's taken to doing the past few years (that he didn't do many years ago) is starting by describing all the known flavor adjectives to each varietal in a blend. I've started noticing him doing this even if those flavors are absolutely not present. For example, a cased blend with say VA, burley, perique. He'll describe "nutty, cocoa, slightly woodsy, floral" for the burley that just is not there at all in that blend. Not sure why he started doing that. Once you use five adjectives for three varietals in a blend and compare it with 50 other reviews its starts to appear that every single blend must taste the same way. I do not get any flavor of "tart, grassy, herbal, or sour" or anything like that whatsoever from the Indonesian Kasturi in Folklore. What it seems to add is a strong, smokey, blackened twist component. I've probably smoked 20+ bowls of this by now. Sure, you can pick out a bit of bright and red Virginia notes which can include a bit of tangy fruitiness but beyond that, I don't think anyone can pick out 30 flavors. It mostly melds together and tasted like mulled wine and smokey tobacco.

I admit that I cannot taste the tobacco as some, I have two reviews.
I like it.
Don’t like it.
And there are some between.

I am waiting for a review of a tobacco that says it tastes like “Unicorn kisses” and then I will buy ten pounds of that tobacco.

I actually really like his reviews. He can certainly give a hard time so I think he can handle a little good-natured kidding. I admit that I can't taste a tenth of what he can so I can't determine the accuracy, but I have have to assume that he is spot on because of the acclaim he receives. I know that his recommendations for me were helpful. On new reviews I have to distill the reviews a little to determine what it's going to taste like to me. When on TR I have it set so that his reviews are the first to come up.

I can't remember what the blend was at all at this point, but Jim once sent me what he said was the worst tobacco he has ever smoked. I liked it. Was a funky aromatic of some sort. All I can seem to remember is that it had about three words to the name and it was a German/European aromatic.

Bacon something. A lot of people seem to say it's the worst they've had. (Others like it. Let a thousand flowers bloom.)
