For 6 months I have been letting the Construction Company use my Cane loading site to park their cars and machinery. Been woken up at 5 am, one of their Diesel fill up trucks leaked all night and I had a big diesel puddle , I never said a word, it came to a head yesterday, they demolished my mailbox, big lowes fancy one, then they started drive way approaches, none for my barn, man across the street had a nice one, wife’s approach very narrow and looked like they were afraid to put out the blacktop. What rankled was at the start of our farm road where the really nice houses were, they were entitled to long nice approaches, so I called my Farmer, he was horrified that after what I put up with they were treating me like that, he called the head man, I soon got a call, told him my grievences , he said DOTD will be at your house right away and I will have a temporary mailbox, put up, wife is telling DOTD what she wants as I write this. Damn I thought it would have gone better than this!

I'm sure the trouble is most likely from a "head man"...someone who hasn't been out there seeing what was going on. Your missus has been more than nice to the workers...I'm sure any input from them "might" be listened to.

Sometimes a Nice Guy gets used. My dad was the archetyypical Nice Guy, but his (mostly humorous) motto was “A kind word and a big revolver.”

Mailbox up, temporary, will do a better one in a week, all issues taken care of, not usually so quick and good, they are doing it for the wife’s sake , some came and told her goodbye. Can you imagine that.

Can you imagine that. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the road paving where you live. There probably are some variances as to how well land owners are treated by the paving crews. The last time my rural Louisiana road was repaved folks who were home got nice driveway approaches paved. Those who weren't home just had a very short driveway approach to the road paved. Everyone was provided with a new standard mailbox after the repaving. My road is scheduled to commence a complete rebuild including changing out all drainage culverts that cross beneath the road to the newer style arch pipes starting Feb. 21st. I'm anxious about the under the road culvert change out since one of them is on my property and I don't need to deal with possible backup flooding from Spring rains. I'd love to get some of the old ground up asphalt material for use on my small farm, when they do that phase of the rebuild. I doubt that I'll be able to get some of it. I've heard of landowners willing to buy the old ground up asphalt and they weren't able to buy any quantity at all. Which contractor did your road paving? it may be that as they're finishing up your road, that the same crew may be coming my way to rebuild my road.

Glen Leger Construction, if you have enough land you can talk to them so they can park there machinery at night, I have a 30/50 steel barn with a Slemco security light adjacent to where they parked, only bad thing it’s close to my bedroom, for 6 months I was disturbed, my neighbor across the road wanted some ground up asphalt and got several loads. Hope that helps.

Hope that helps. Thanks for the info. I will have to wait to see their trucks and equipment logos on Feb. 21st. I only saw a notice of the bid winning contractor's name once before this past August when the state awarded the contract. I seem to recollect a company name like you mentioned was the winner. I have my open cleared property behind my home and yard leased to a cattle farmer It probably wouldn't work well to have cattle grazing around their equipment at night. I don't want to be responsible for problems to their equipment due to the cattle being around their equipment at night or vice versa the cattle being harmed by leaking products from the equipment of the contractor or a contractor worker forgetting to close the gate and the cattle getting loose. The price of steaks/hamburger/etc. is getting too high to risk unnecessarily. It's nice to hear there's hope for a load or two of ground up asphalt. I could use some on my personal road in my wooded acreage behind the pasture to get to deer stands.
