I just watched "The Shift". I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't heard so much about it. I would have watched just to see what happens, instead of trying to interpret everything. But it was well done. And despite the above, I really enjoyed it. Neal McDonough is amazing. He is the best bad guy ever. You hate his character before he even says a word. I hated his character in Justified, and then again in Yellowstone. In real life he sounds quite respectable: “ He has stated that he refuses to perform sex scenes because of his faith and respect for his wife. He said he was fired from the TV series Scoundrels for his refusal to perform sex scenes.[17] ” But I agree… he is pretty good at playing a bad guy. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neal_McDonough

I agree Ron, my oldest Son told me about it, wife and I enjoyed it! I was told many decades ago not to mess with the Finns. Not that I would. They will eat their enemies if they run low on food.

Or fighting a war in Afghanistan, the place where empires go to die. If you don't fight unnecessary wars, you don't screw up so much.

Watched Killers of The Flower Moon last night, I had read the book couple years ago, what the movie didn’t convey was how much so called regular people were in on the oil headland grabbing either by turning a blind eye, participating, hundreds of em. Well played even though I am not a Denison fan, long movie, streamed it at home in bed, lot better!

Even a villain worse than Wynn Duffy or Boyd Crowder. For me, Wynn and Boyd were a tad sympathetic but this other guy was truly evil.

Sorry about the early morning spelling. DE NIRO was supposed to be above. I figured that. Did not think you meant the canned Chile con Carne. Auto Correct can be a pain.

I still have my heart and I am keeping it... for the time being.

I just went and saw the movie and enjoyed it, Neal outdid himself in earlier bad guy roles, playing the part of Satan kind of seals that deal. As a Christian Sci-Fi movie, a certain knowledge of scripture makes it more understandable, not inferring that you do not Jeff... just a tip to others, still not heavy at all on theology or preachy.More than once, the wife and I brought each other up to speed on what we saw, still it all came together. www.angel.com/tickets/the-shift?

"The Last Run", 1971. A Caper movie with George C. Scott. Very well done. Filmed in Portugal, Spain, and southern France. George plays a retired wheel man called back to rescue an escapee and transport to safety. He drives a BMW roadster with supercharger. Great driving scenes. I recommend it if it can be found. I watched it on The Criterion Channel.

The family just watched The Borrowers from 1997 with John Goodman and a very tiny Tom Felton. (Malfoy the bouncing weasel). If you liked Mousetrap then you would like this.

I just watched "The Shift". .. just a tip to others, still not heavy at all on theology or preachy. Not in any way. You could thoroughly enjoy it for its story whether or not. (Nobody avoids a vampire movie because they use a cross.) I can think of more than a few movies that would have been much better if Neal McDonough were the bad guy.

What an absolutely evil piece of feculence his character is. Well played bad guys can make or break a movie.

Thinking about bad guys in movies. I watched a lot of cowboy movies and TV shows as a kid. No, a lot. a real lot. Seriously, a lot.
Three of my favorite bad guys
Lee Van Cleef - A Few Dollars More and especially The Good The Bad and the Ugly. (Speaking of which, anyone know where I can get a pipe like he smoked? A small meerschaum with a yellow stem, if I remember. I am such a fan boy.)
Richard Boon in Big Jake, one of my favorite John Wayne movies. The scene where Big Jake is bringing the money to ransom is grandson so just wonderful. Boon is just so easy to hate. Lots of great scenes in that movie. (Richard Boon was also the hero good guy in Paladin, for a different thread.)
Jackie Elam, several westerns he played a bad guy that could scare the potatoes out of you just by saying hello. See a favorite of mine, Once Upon a Time in the West, and his various appearances in Rawhide and The Rifleman. There is a classic scene I forget the movie, where he is a customer at a gun shop, and you know before the proprietor knows, that ain't nobody paying for no guns.

I just saw an oldie but goodie "Going My Way" starring Bing Crosby. The kind of movie you can thoroughly enjoy without a single cringe or fear of a cringe. Just delightful. The perfect two pipe movie sitting in a bathrobe on a wintery Sunday afternoon.
There is a scene where Bing pulls out a pipe and tries to light a match. They bring out this cool little match lighter thing. I would love to find one of those. I think it is similar to what Humphrey Bogart had on his desk in Maltese Falcon, that Effie used to light his cigarettes. Love it love it.

I think that's the movie, anyway.
