"Manhunter", 1980s. The first movie based upon the book Red Dragon which introduced us to that fun guy, Hannibal Lecktor. Well done. No pun intended.

Tried to watch one of the recent Star Trek movies with Chris Pine as Kirk. Does not work for me. I assume it is supposed to be a prequel to the TV series. There are no substitutes for the original cast.

"Lured", 1947. A great police whodunnit set in London after the war. With George Sanders, Cedric Hardwicke, Lucille Ball, Boris Karloff, Charles Coburn, George Zucco, Alan Mobray, Alan Napier, Robert Coote, Joseph Calliea. Many of the greats from that era. Worht a watch if you enjoy old mystery movies.

"The 25th Reich", a WWII movie made a few years ago. Strictly Comic Book material but well made. The actors are all unknown to me but are very good in this. Appears to be a series of movies. Time travel and future mechanized Naaaazis, as Winston called them.

Here is one I recommend. "The Passage", 1979. Anthony Quinn as a Basque sheepherder leading a famous scientist, James Mason, and his family out of France across the Pyrenees into neutral Spain. Filmed during winter in the Pyrenees and it is spectacular. They are pursued by the SS led by the usual psychopath played brilliantly by Malcom McDowell. Their party is aided by a Gypsy, Christopher Lee, and various French Resistance fighters, one is Michael Lonsdale, the police detective in the original "Day of the Jackal". Patricia Neal plays the scientists wife and is quite good. A fine actress she. Worth watching Quinn owns every role.

Just sounds extremely familiar. Also sounds right up Bob's alley. The original Day of the Jackal was terrific, and Lonsdale was terrific in it (as he was in just about everything).

Watched "Old Henry" again last night. Great Western. Moody and well acted. Tim Blake Nelson is a fine actor. I recommend it! This is nothing like his comic roles.

"Southside 1-1000", 1950. Secret Service pursues counterfeiters. From real events in a story written by a retired SA. Great cast. If you enjoy these period crime dramas this is a good one.

Cash Out 2024 John Travolta as a bank robber against the FBI. 7/10 I will look for that one. I never much cared for Travolta until the movie "Get Shorty". He nailed that Chili Palmer character.

THE PILOT. Russian. A really fine film. Complex and very well done. The aerial combat scenes are probably the best I’ve ever seen. High recommended. (It has Englsih dubbing but I watched it in Russian, with English subtitles.)
