After searching in line for years, I finally found the Hammer DVD containing two old movies. "X The Unknown" and "The Abominable Snowman". Very rare disc and quite expensive for me. So, it was with joy I put it in my old DVD player last week looking forward to a great evenings entertainment. I had seen both movies long ago and was ready to enjoy again. Alas, the DVD's were in PAL Format (UK). A fact the Ebay seller overlooked. SO, I had to order an all regions DVD player. That arrived and is now set up for tonight's viewing. I did not mind the purchase since there are other PAL DVDs I would like to watch. Hoping everything is copasetic with this. Another Hammer movie I want to see again is "Five Million Years to Earth". Rarely shown in the US. One of the best Sci-Fi movies ever made in my opinion. I had that happen to me years ago and I had to do the same thing. The player I finally got was pretty cheap, but finding it took a while. Greek issue of Salome's Last Dance. Is that based on the Wilde play?

In the UK, it was titled Quatermass and the Pit and it was one of a series of Quatermass movies, all of which are really outstanding and worth a watch.

I had that happen to me years ago and I had to do the same thing. The player I finally got was pretty cheap, but finding it took a while. Greek issue of Salome's Last Dance. Is that based on the Wilde play? Yep. A Ken Russell movie. Glenda Jackson as Herodias. A brilliant performance by Imogen Millais-Scott as Salome. She was mostly blind during filming, and she had failing kidneys from type 1 diabetes. She would have been a star. Her performance is hypnotic. musings.oscilloscope.net/post/129154141201/imogen-millais-scotts-last-dance-the-astounding

Hammer's "The Abdominal Snowman". In honor of my surgery, . Very well done movie. The dialogue was hard to follow with my hearing loss and the DVD lacked subtitles, drat! The actors spoke their lines rapidly.

Just watched Blackberry. Great movie, especially the first half when the business was heading up, but of course the entire story must be told. I had 3 Blackberries, great phones from a simpler time. There is one scene where they sell Bell Atlantic that is a great scene.

"The House on Telegraph Hill", 1949. A B&W classic.

"The House on Telegraph Hill", 1949. A B&W classic. That name sounds familiar, but as a book. Was it based on a novel?

Not that I know of. Story of a Polish refugee from Belson camp who assumes the identity of a friend who died. She had relatives, wealthy relatives in San Francisco. Then the thick plotens...

Sounds interesting. It looks like there are several books by that name, but none have anything to do with that story. I think I wasn't thinking of any of them but of Michael Chabon's Telegraph Avenue.

My cuz is a cheapskate, so when he comes down he always goes back with a tranch of my DVDs. I have about 450 or so in my accumulection. Good ones, no junk. The other night I sent him back with one I do NOT loan: WAKING NED DIVINE, one of my all time favorites. He’s reliable or he wouldn’t get it. He emailed today that he watched it last night and how much he liked it. He has good taste.

Slogging my way through the recent "Dune" remake. This is heavy travelling. Well, thats Dune. I think it's worth it. But I absorbed the story in 1984 on the plane to Ireland. Read the entire book on the round trip. Anyway, I think that makes it easier to get into it. The wife never read any of the books, but she loves all the movies. She's the studios perfect customer.

I couldn't get into Dune I think I've read to much that was inspired from it mostly a ton of warhammer 40k tie in fiction.

Slogging my way through the recent "Dune" remake. This is heavy travelling. I agree. Not as good as Part 1. Certain segments "jump" ahead without any rhyme or reason.

Dune 2 has 79% on Metacritic and 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. That's about as good as it gets. But, at this point, the audience is a segment of the population that has been primed for it.

I never read the book but enjoyed the earlier movie from the 80s. This Dune, Part 1 seems well made. The story unfolds very sloooowly. I bought it on sale for $6.99 so I can watch it at my own pace. I am good for about 20 to 30 minutes. Very few movies hold my attention for much longer.

The only other books I have read that I don't think lend themselves to a movie are Asimov's Foundation series. I think it would make a great series. I do wonder if it would attract an audience.

The Promised Land, Swedish, German, Denmark, Subtitles in English, usually don't watch these, but the story intrigued me, Military Man musters out, wants to farm land called the Heath, no one makes it on this land, he tells the Gentleman in the power to let him do it, he'll use his own money, this is in the 1600s , king owns the land, they give him the ok, Rich landowner nearby doesn't want him there. Really good story,
