When smoking cigars I follow the English tradition of removing the label. We are all friends as smokers, regardless how high falutin or low brow our tastes. Especially today, when smokers are ostracised from the wakeup.
Well I may put some duck tape on my whisky bottles for the same reason. I drink what I drink. I read some reviews of my beloved Basil Hayden I didn't know how much of a reprobate I was.
FWIW: I just discovered the great combination. A strong Va-Per, like GL Pease Stratford, and Screwball peanut butter whiskey. No seriously, its magnificent. Don't tell anyone what's in the glass, however. Folks can't judge you for what they don't know. Maybe wear a blazer when you partake.
A friend of mine is expanding my whisky experiences, at both ends of the pretentious spectrum. I am wondering what pipe tobacco will go with Dr. McGillicuddy's Intense Apple Pie Liqueur, because I tell you I want to know.

This may sound odd. I have actually never seeked to pair a drink with a pipe with the goal of enhancing flavors on both, or just for increasing the overall enjoyment. I derive my pleasure from a good bowl and it is sufficient for me. The drink comes along simply to keep my mouth hydrated throughout the process. I like mostly tea or an occasional coffee in the mornings, and lots of sparkling water for the rest of the day. I haven't touched a can of pop in ages. I have never found alcohol to be a good match with a pipe. When I did drink alcohol, I found that they interfered with each other. I have even read an article by a medical doctor that receommended not to drink alcohol with tobacco, that it was detrimental to the smoker's oral health. I can't remember specifically what it was but alcohol has an impact on the mouth's tissue which, when combined with tobacco increases the detrimental, potential impact of the alcohol itself. He recommended to rather drink non - alcoholic drinks. As for tea and coffee, he specified that it shouldn't be too hot, which is not good either. I guess the doc's opinion will not be popular.

I agree that alcohol doesn't work with tobacco for me, or very hot coffee. I really don't even like carbonated drinks with my pipe.

My all time favorite drink to pair with a pipe is flat Coke Zero. Really flat three days in a bowl flat.
