Dang, Pete. You've got a seriously good eye for line and proportion. Only 12 pipes under your belt, and you can make a prince this nice? I know what you should be when you grow up.

I do believe you've found your calling. You take a concept in the brain and turn it into a lovely pipe in the hand the way I pour water from a glass. There seems to be a rash of pipe related skill sets around the Patch lately...I hope I catch it. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, guys. This one was a bit of a challenge. One thing about carving a standard shape is that you know when you're headed in the wrong direction. Establishing the round shape and keeping it concentric, maintaining the curve top to bottom, establishing, maintaining and blending the shape of shank, accent and stem were all challenging. Took my time and did my best. It was fun to do.

Hey, John. Yes, I am. I've been there quite often to do research. I haven't joined, because it doesn't appear to be very active these days. Looked like a busy forum 2010-2015. More than a couple well-known carvers hung out there.

I know at least 3 members there who would be ashamed to show their pipes next to yours, or at least they should be.

I don't know about that, Ron. But, if they posted their pipes there, they had more self-confidence than me. When that forum was very active, a posted pipe would get LOTS of honest feedback.

When I posted pipe #8, I mentioned that I thought the shank was a little too thick. Last night, I decided to revisit this pipe and thin the shank down a bit. But, just thinning it down didn't sound like much fun. So, I gave it some visual interest, too.

Some got it, and some don't, I guess , but you sure make it look like child's play. I have a shop full of tools and mostly I make firewood. There's a bit of magic in your hands, Pete, Congrats on letting your skill come into full bloom!

Very cool, Pete. I'm just catching up on the past couple weeks. Seems you went from freehands to standard shape chart, to now Ardors. Very impressive!

Not sure where I'm going with this hobby. Freehands allow for imagination and creativity. The standards teach me discipline and accuracy (I hope). This latest one was probably the most fun. I really need to carve a billiard to honestly gauge how my "skills" are progressing. I am going to be carving smaller pipes in the near future. Something that doesn't take two hours to smoke.

I love the revision to the shank on #8. Thanks, Monty. I think it improved the proportions quite a bit. Working on overcoming my fear of thin shanks. One of my earlier pipes ended up with a thinner than desired shank because I wasn't careful enough with the saw. The embellishments make it more interesting, visually, I think.

That's a beauty. The accent was a good call--really ties it all together
