Needed something quick, easy, tasty, with enough of a bite to let me know I actually smoked something; so I just loaded up some Orion's Arrow into the MM Legend Straight and let 'er rip.
So far, it's a good choice on a warm and very busy day.

I'm really not sure what I smoked today, but I've had about half a dozen bowls of it in the Icarus Lovat and my Baraccini Strattura Ebano 504, a nd I've filled my 4th Gen pouch with it.I came across an unmarked jar of some English blend. The fact that it was unmarked leads me to believe this was something that I mixed with something else. I really have no idea other than it has a good amount of Latakia, but that describes almost all the tobaccos I have. I added in an equal part of Old Professor for good measure, and am calling it "English Mystery." Whatever is in it, this has turned out to be a remarkably smooth and tasty blend. I sure wish I'd labeled that jar, because I'd like to make some more of this!

What I did this time was mix my 50/50 OJK/ASR:BC with a dash of "Green River" that I got as a little sample pouch from a generous tobacconist at a B&M in a town about an hours' drive away (I'm pretty sure it's C&D Green River Vanilla). But I decided to lean a little more heavily on the OJK side, to make up for it. It's really good, but not really an improvement. Definitely has more vanilla; a little dab'll do ya, I guess!

So that didn't work well with the Blood Red Moon. Didn't feel sticky or goopy under the fingers, but boy, smoking that stuff is another story. I had to dump it around half bowl, light, relight, relight, etc. the thing just wouldn't stay lit. It's so heavily cased and whatever else added that it managed to remove part of the cake build up the bowl had accumulated. That's quite the achievement. You can't trust raving, drugstore-cherry-smoking wackadoodles when they say that there's a good cherry tobacco! This tobacco was slated to be discontinued already, in the event you still find it in stock and actually like it. Indeed! Can't say I like it at all. And the worse, is these were 'reputed' reviewers praising this blend. I just don't get it. Smoking properties should be part of a review. If it smells nice but doesn't burn great and then, trashes a cake build up, it's not worthy of being smoked nor praised. I am going to stick with Peterson's University Flake, De Luxe Mixture, Connoissor's Choice, Sweet Killarney, Erinmore Flake & Mixture, Ennerdale & Kendal Flakes, Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky, as well as Davidoff Danish Mixture from now on when I want a decent aro.

Starting the day with Rattray Sir William (Peterson Irish Whisky clone) in the Peterson POTY 21, to undo the damage done by Red Blood Moon. Black tea with milk & sugar on the side.

I've never worked with meerschaum. Could be interesting...and disastrous! I don't think that a length of a GH rope is a big deal, I have a lifetime supply times five. As far as the meerschaum, it was a gift to me from a friend who was stationed in Turkey years ago. He thought I might want to make some pipes and the thought crossed my mind for a while, but I have to be realistic about what I will actually get to, and I won't ever use it. I enjoy seeing the pipes you are making on your sawdust thread and I think it would honor my friends memory (he died a few years back) by having the meerschaum actually get used, good or disastrously, to make some pipes.

I've reached a point in the season where I have 100+ things open and I can't even decide what to smoke, when, especially in the morning. I did have an early morning burley regimen dialed in just a few months ago but that's all gone out the window since March.
Think I'll continue trying to finish up nearly gone blends. First up, I've got about two bowls of G.L. Pease Windjammer left in the tin. In a Falcon Hyperbole bowl on a straight classic stem.

I started my Sunday with Newminster's 403 Superior Slices in a Norning Signature, followed by Butternut Burley, in a briar calabash marked 221 Baker Street...now it's NM Blackberry Brandy, in a bent pot with no name, Amazon green tea with ginseng & honey on the side.
