I received a โ surprise gift โ in the mail. Itโs in pristine condition.....a carved Yello-Bole Pug Pipe. The sender wishes to remain anonymous, but he/she must know I enjoy smoking a Nosewarmer.....and the Pug series are definitely in that category. Also wrapped with this pipe was the tin of tobacco pictured below. Itโs been a number of years since I had the pleasure of enjoying this fine English blend. Sender...I thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity........amazing members here on the Patch ๐๐๐๐๐

Just received a surprise parcel from a Brisbane couple from whom I've bought several pipes. They are great to deal with. They regularly put pipes aside for me as I wait for another pipe that's within my budget to appear in their list, to spread the cost of postage (They have some really nice pipes that are beyond my budget - they've been selling off his huge private collection)
They held one pipe for so long that I forgot what I'd reserved. A meerschaum lined olive wood Molina Billiard came up recently so I jumped on that. Hearing that the husband is really ill with back pain from a long term injury & seeing that the wife had her hands full, I specifically asked to be put at the bottom of her 'to do list'. I've got more than enough pipes & so am content to wait knowing that they're mine. (Yes! I've finally learnt; patience is a verb, lol)
Well then, imagine my surprise when the postie arrived this morning with an unexpected parcel; recognising the Aussie postal pack, I had a fair idea that it was from them. It was unexpected because I've yet to receive an invoice.
The pipe that I had forgotten is a little half bent Dr Plumb Dinky pocket pipe. It's just a touch smaller than my Dr Grabow Duke. - Up until I ordered the Duke & a couple of MM cobs, I'd been smoking a Sherlock Holmes Peterson daily for years (Had no idea that a briar should be rested) so needed to build a rotation.
Initially I was a little disappointed that the Dr Grabow Duke was so small but it's quite a good little pipe for sampling & for a quick smoke. The Dr Plumb Dinky will serve the same purpose. Wish I knew how to post pics because this is a great looking little pipe. (It looks so small next to my other pipes, lol)
This is my first Olive Wood. Not sure how they smoke so I figured a meerschaum lining would prevent any possible overheating. My much smaller 50's meerschaum lined Heibe Goldpoint Dublin makes a huge difference with some blends. I can't smoke MB Plumcake in a briar without frying my mouth for e.g. but it's a dream in the meerschaum lined bowl. I'm looking forward to seeing how a much larger meerschaum lined bowl affects taste & bitey blends.
Included in my parcel were two more surprises, an unsmoked large bowl no brand smooth Billiard briar with tapered stem & a refurbished estate rusticated paneled Emperor with tapered stem. How good is that? Free is good. Me like free.
I'll be starting a thread giving their Etsy details for members perusal. And I'll be adding a German website that's just opening today. I've bought over 50 pipes from this seller whom I also highly recommend. He got sick of ebay so closed & set up the website. There's a few surprises so check out the thread.
[Yes, long post. I'm nicely medicated thanks for asking. My jaw is still swollen from my dental surgery last week & it's terribly painful & tender. At least I got 7 hours sleep, so that's good. Me also like sleep. Sleep is good]
That is all. : )

elric........after your oral surgery did you wait to smoke a pipe for a few days? So no dry socket or infection in the very near future!?!?!? Feel better...I know what your going through. My meds have destroyed my teeth, basically took off the majority of the enamel. I have an appointment for a consult with an oral surgeon July 19th. Two of my other specialists on the 18th......itโs going to be a fun week!!!

My meds have destroyed my teeth, basically took off the majority of the enamel. I have an appointment for a consult with an oral surgeon July 19th. Two of my other specialists on the 18th......itโs going to be a fun week!!! Well I did wait 24 hours before I had a pipe. My surgeon put me on a prophylactic course of antibiotics as he had to do quite a bit of cutting to extract (3 stitches) I've got a piece of melted cheese caught up in the wound/stitches. Swishing with warm salty water wont dislodge it. Using a cotton bud was really painful & made it throb for hours. Don't suppose you know if it's alright to use a clove oil/benzocaine mix to numb the wound site to remove the cheese? Ted, you came to mind after you told me of your surgeons intentions. Initially the referring dentist suggested that I have the 5-6 teeth removed under a general but there was a one year waiting list. At the time that sounded like a good idea but I now can't imagine how bad the recovery would have been. The two teeth removed at the 1st surgery healed well. A bit sore but nothing like this. The surgeon did warn me to expect swelling & quite a bit of pain. [Imagine what people went through before anesthetics?) My hope is is that yours come out much more easily Ted.

elric............ I use a product sold here in the States called orajel which has 20% Benzocaine. Clove doesnโt relieve pain, not much anyway. Definitely helps numb the pain. Iโm sure if you go to your local pharmacy and explain the product I mentioned a pharmacist might have what you need which is sold over the counter, no prescription needed. Iโd keep gently swishing warm water to remove any cheese left under the stitches. Just be careful not to remove ANY blood clot that formed on your gums where the teeth were extracted. You can cause whatโs called dry socket.....which can be quite painful. Hope you heal fast with less pain!!!

I've got a 7.5% benzocaine mixture. It's 5.10pm here so I'm calling the surgeon tomorrow & hopefully I'll get an 'emergency' appt & let him sort it. On the bright side all treatment is free. Have I previously mentioned that I like free? lol Clove oil actually works quite well at relieving tooth & gum pain but it's taste is not so good. The benzocaine mix has 19.5% clove bud oil. The taste when it's watered down is much easier to take.

Had an unexpected package waiting for me at the door when I got home. A very nice 1st generation Kaywoodie with a stinger that I'll actually leave in this pipe. It's my first Kaywoodie as well Also, some OLD tobacco that is going to find a nice little home on my shelf. I've been looking at these packages for 5 minutes now. I love the Vintage packages. Thank you sir. I raise my pipe to you this afternoon.
