Hi all; I need your advise on tthe purches of a new fridge. There are so meny brands out there ,its confussing. I am looking for a 18 cf. size and wont to keep it simple. No ice maker in the door, no putter telling you what you need or that the door is open or any of the other crap that you dont need. would you tell me of your fridge and if you are happy with it or not. Right now I have a G.E. that is still working, but is 22 years old. I thank-you for your advice. I dont think the next one will last that long . Herman

From an earlier thread, my post: “ My wife went to the local Mom and pop place and had a nice GE unit for $1,200...but found the same refigerator with a new warranty for $700 at Sears outlet...scratch and dent. The dents were on the side in the fridge alcove that cannot be seen....the dents were on the handles, and I found a new pair of handles in Kansas for $35.00 (page 5 of a Google search, once I found the part number...everyone else wanted $70.00 per handle)...two Allen screws to loosen swap out. Nothing to do with the Samsung recommendation... My Outbound supervisor recommended that I buy LG like he has...all his appliances have Wi-Fi....he can adjust temps from his phone...I asked him what his fridge costed...2K!” thebriarpatchforum.com/thread/6738/thoughts-on-refrigerators-freezers

If you do go that route, there is a company at least here that buys up all of the scratch and dents from the large companies and sells them with great discounts still under warranty, but of course you would want to closely check door seals, etc… in case a gorilla got his hands on it.
Some retailers offer military discounts for those that served.

I wouldn’t replace a fridge unless I have to. I’ve been very disappointed with LG and Samsung. They’re junk. I like the vintage GE in my house in SoAZ, it might cost a few extra bucks in electricity but it works very well.

Don't buy the Insignia brand from Best buy. They can't repair them after a year. Stick with the well known names. GE, Frigidaire, etc.

My house came with GE profile fridge, dishwasher, stove and microwave.
They all ran their course, and with the exception of the dishwasher, I replaced them with the same…my dishwasher is now a Kenmore ( made by Whirlpool) because it got really good reviews.
For the fridge and dishwasher, I am glad that I replaced my water softener and RO unit… I do have the ice and water in the door, and it beats store bought bottled water and ice. For the dishwasher, the dishes are sparkling clean without the hard water.

I've had a Whirlpool freezer out in the garage for the past couple of years. Runs like a top.
The GE washing machine I bought earlier this year is running fine, but I've only had it a few months.

Whirlpool, maytag. Dont but one until you have to. New ones dont last as long as yours. Stick with American. And I wouldn't be without water & ice dispenser on outside door. Side by sides offer more freezer room usually than freezer on the bottom models. Just my opinion

Got a black Frigidaire last winter for $600 brand new with a couple imperceptible dents on the side in the back and like Charlie said, you can't even see them recessed into the fridge alcove in our kitchen. We've loved the fridge since we got it and the fridge stays stably cold without having to crank it down and sips on power in comparison to the old fridge.

Bosch, GE, Kitchenaid/Whirlpool and Maytag. I have owned GE and Maytag refrigerators that were still great after 30 years. Very happy with my newer Kitchenaid. The order I listed above is based on researching several sites. I can say that I have found LG appliances to be short lived, expensive to repair, garbage.

Thank you to all who replied and all the good advice. I think that at 75 I will wait till it goes . Who knows it might outlast me. On the lighter side has anyone heard from Bruno T or Everit the pipe maker from MD. Thanks again Herman

I had good luck with LG but things change...
Kitchen Aide was a long lasting machine. I still have it in the barn but too costly to repair nowadays. I hate throwing it out.
I might use it for a Perp Box, bwahahaha!

Also check out Costco and see what they have...if you are a member, they have Kirkland signature brand of Whirlpool...no problems for over 15 years so far.
