I recently moved and got a new doctor. For several years I have been on a medication called clonazepam (similar to Valium or Xanax). I asked my psychiatrist to taper me off of it because I was tired of the side effects. When I told the new doctor about that, he said, "Yeah, you don't want to enter your golden years on a medication like that."
Ugh.

Soon to be 62, all I take is Zyrtec for allergies, Pepcid for stomach acid.
Pretty blessed, I think that the physical nature of my work helps keep things under control.

Old is mind over matter. If you don’t mind it doesn’t matter. No need to make a profession out of it.

Good luck. Klonopin isn't a bad drug, per se, but the dependence can be a bear, so you're better off without. I hope he gave you nice, slow taper plan. Stick with the taper and it'll be easy-peasy. Be careful and communicate with the docs--if you're not feeling well, you might need to go more slowly.
And when you feel old, just look at Ancient Ed and you'll feel young again.

The initial taper was 1 mg per week -- I started out on 2mg twice a day. That was too fast, so I changed it to 1/2 mg per week. If all goes well, I'll be off the stuff next Sunday.

That seems quick, but listen to your body and your doc. I've never had the misfortune of coming off it, but am close to people who have. I'm hoping it goes well and you can put it behind you. Everybody's different, but the worst for me was Cymbalta, in a completely different class of drug, several months of unpleasantness. On the other hand, I came off eight years of morphine with no taper, was sick as a dog for three days, and was quickly back to normal (except for not having my pain controlled).

That sounds far too quick if you've been on Klonopin for quite some time. You really want to be careful as going nearly cold turkey can induce seizures with this medication. If you've been on this at 1mg TWICE a day for at least more than one year, I'd shop for another new doctor.

Maybe try some CBD or THC edibles? Much less side effects although you might wake up at 2 am and raid the fridge

The THC induced munchies are related to activation in the brain's pleasure center as the THC dose is absorbed and the "High" starts to fade. It can be controlled through brief meditation or enjoyed if one can afford the calories!

Feel old you say?...these golden years, for me, are a constant journey from one cream, ointment, or medication to another. Yesterday I was in the gym, working to lose weight as my doctor instructed, and a bolt on one of the machines scraped the side of my lower leg and opened a small pocket of fluid that sometimes gathers at my shins. By nightfall this area of exposed nerve endings began to throb like a giant raspberry. I spent the better part of the day with my now bandaged leg propped up with yet another cream under the bandage, and a total of eight IBuprofen so far, to keep the pain down. Sometimes you just can't win.

As we drift into the “autumn years” we discover all manner of ways to “feel old.” Some are the aches and pains that go with the territory. Maybe more deadly is the mental feeling of Age & Decrepitude. Seems to me that anticipation is a key to winning the battle: always having something to look forward to. A trip, a visit, a new pipe, a special meal. Doesn’t matter what it is, just something to look forward to with pleasure. If they don’t come along naturally. you have to invent ‘em. Growing old is not for sissies, but a little creativity can help. I’m not old, I’m just an advanced and experienced 30YO. Just my 2¢…

A couple of years ago when we had just moved I was busy as a one armed paper hanger and had a ton of projects. Then with the covid and getting most of the projects done all I'm looking forward to is my wife's surgery and long recovery. I had thought we would travel when we moved as we both love long road trips, but it hasn't worked out that way. We'll see what next year brings, but I've just been an anxious lump for the past year or so.

Ibuprofen is deadly for the kidneys. I was Stage 3 kidney failure. Quit Ibuprofen and returned to normal in four months. I was taking 600 mg USP tablets. Now, I hurt and love it!

I was taking 4x 600 4 times a day and I'm still stage 3. Doctor said that it was definitely the ibuprofen and naproxen. I was trying to relieve the aches and pains of statins. I wonder if they ever count the years off the lives of the millions of people who they've damaged against the limited benefits of statins.

I also stopped Statins.
