Mac Baren Burley London Blend 2022 in a MM Southport Ferryman cob. This blend may not be for me. Is it still biting you or is it the flavor? Smoke carefully, I avoid the bite. I think it's just too heavily flavored for me. Hoping time will mellow it out. I jarred the open tin and put it in the cellar for a while.

Pretty much all of the Mac Baren blends give me tongue bite when fresh, but they mellow out quite nicely with time. There is a reason some pipe smokers refer to them as MacBite.

Mac Baren Burley London Blend 2022 in a MM Southport Ferryman cob. This blend may not be for me. Too much bite? I see you said it may be the toppings. The poor choice of casings they tend to use can easily cause bite. I believe Jeremy Reeves of C&D is even one of the types of people who cannot smoke any Mac Baren tobaccos because his mouth will feel like tongue bite is starting within five minutes of the smoke. It can be hit or miss for me with their blends all told. I've really been liking the Plum Cake, the Royal Twist can be real bitey and I have to smoke it very cautiously/slowly. The Symphony I find to have a really great flavor but it's like skirting on a razor's edge coaxing it to not bite. Jeremy just did a recent writeup with Chuck Stanion over on SmokingPipes about causes of tongue bite and he addresses how C&D blend in smidges of burley and perique as more alkaline tobaccos to help equalize the pH of a blend. I think whatever Mac Baren use as casings are terribly acidic and should be changed entirely.

I just think it's overtopped/cased for my tastes. Reminds me of some aromatic Christmas blends minus the baking spices.

It's been some time but I often detect somewhat of a cinnamon and something else going on in those burleys. I can agree they all are fairly cased but then again, you know my preferences (our preferences) for better C&D burley anyway.
I'm starting some Pegasus in the showcob with blue/white acrylic saddlebit.

Smoking some 50 year old Heine’s Blend in an MM Maple spool pipe. I’m jealous! I often smoke fairly recent production of Henie’s Blend and I’m curious what some that old would be like.
