Today is my last weekly lunch date with mom until I return from my travels. As expected she wanted Chinese food again. 😂🤷♂️ Who's responsible for your mom's Chinese food fix while you're gone?

Okay, so here's my complaint for the day. One of my hearing aid's tiny sound transmission tubes pulled out of the earpiece microphone. Since my hearing aids are provided by the VA, I need to send it to the repair dept. in a pre-addressed, postage-free shipping box that's being sent to me. Still waiting for the box. I've gone through this before and the total turnaround time is about a month. Could you speak up, please? lol I feel your pain. Just spent an hour on the phone with the VA going over more ridiculous stuff. I’m finding they’re getting better adding more layers of needless bureaucracy making the most basic thing tens times more complicated. Someone explain to me why I need an Intake Worker, a Resource Coordinator and a Case Manager just to accomplish one task? I’d love to see an organization chart or chain of command (assuming one even exists). Good grief….. On the bright side, eleven more days until I’m wheels up again. Bureaucracy never shrinks, except for once in France when it became a head shorter.

Drought was over last week and I was finally able to burn 4 months of Amazon boxes. Yesterday we had 8 inches of rain and the pond rose 6 feet. This weekend is going to be gorgeous.

Hose Day. 24-29° forecast for Saturday so today is the day I lay out the hoses and drain them for winter storage. Not my favorite activity but must be done. I have put away all of mine except for the 150 feet from the hydrant to the stock tanks. Than one I must empty each time all winter and do it fast before they freeze. Maintaining small tanks through the winter is a chore but must be done. Chopping ice, dumping and refilling. Tank heaters are not worth the expense. They seldom work.

Bureaucracy never shrinks, except for once in France when it became a head shorter. I just find it bizarre that I have to deal with four different people before anything gets done. Essentially one person to give me the form, a second one to staple the pages, third one files it and the last one ensures it was done correctly. One reason why I retired as an O-6 and didn’t get a star. I would have fired the lot had they been under my chain. Apologies for ranting but I hate needless pork barrelling.

I already spoke to the owner and gave him $500 credit towards my account. My mom is free to come and order to her heart’s content. Logistical planning: the key to a soldier’s heart (actually it’s beans and bullets but you get the jist). LOL….😂👍

Understood. “Team medicine” seems to be the new fad. They have such a system at the cancer center and I have described it as a Chinese fire drill. They also have an online system that does not work and is a pain to try to use. I cynically suspect the team system is a way to make it easier to pass the buck and make sure no single person can be held responsible for the inevitable screw-ups.
”Well, I’m so sorry about that. I have NO idea how that could have happened.”

The real problem, as I see it, is such organizations are designed to work for the staff of the organization and not for those it serves.

Yesterday, a couple neighbors and I received a delivery of 20 cubic yards of road gravel to fix up the worst spots on our 1/2 mile long private dirt road. So, a day of fun out on the tractor. 😎

Won a Tuft and Needle Mint mattress, California King. Delivered today, me and my son in law muled it up to the guest bedroom. Recently remodeled the bathroom for that, nicer than our master bath. The wife bought some amazing sheets, and an aunt gave us a phenomenal embroidered quilt…. I just hope no visitors claim squatters rights.😉

Not so bad in a tractor though. I moved 10 yards by myself with a shovel when I was a “yute”, and did it for free thanks to my dad.

Was helping my buddy who is a bit laid up to do foot surgery do some laundry today. It was nice to visit with him and he picked up the tab for dinner.

The truck slow rolled the dump over the three areas. Me and one neighbor with our tractors with front end loaders and back blades plus one other neighbor with a shovel and a rake. We had it spread and basically leveled in a little under two hours. We'll hit it with our back blades again in a day or two.

I didn’t mean to minimize the work involved, I just champion the ability to be able to do as much as possible with equipment, but there is always handwork involved. The “old days sucked”…..😉 Glad you were able to get her done!

Finished cleaning up the yard from all the hedge and bush trimming I did yesterday. I did a little yard work today, clearing dead saplings and bushes from the summer drought. I have been so listless of late with this stomach problem and jaw infection, have not done much in a while. Much to do. Fortunately the cooler weather helps.

I am far from listless. I have list after list of things that need to be done.

Took wife early morning for her other eye cataract surgery, went well, laying up in recliner after I made her comfortable in bed.

My gastroenterologist's office called to tell me my abdominal CT scan last week showed nothing out of the ordinary. No concerning findings. This is a mixed blessing. So, what if causing all this stomach pain and light nausea? So, on to an endoscopy and colonoscopy the third week of January. Appears I will make it to that date, weather and the Cosmos willing.
Meanwhile, I continue to avoid anything which might irritate my stomach. Spicy, greasy, acidic. Just plain cooking and not much of it.

I just finished downloading scans of two vintage railroad postcards to my photo file and, after resizing, I'll post them on my blog.
