How's the move going, Monty? We've moved into the house in Florida, but I'm back in Illinois right now - for a visit and for another load of stuff. It's going to take several more trips to move stuff I couldn't or wouldn't move by semi-trailer - like stereo/speakers, ammo, guns, tobacco, reloading supplies ..... so just about everything regulated by the ATF

I was driving down to Florida and my friend with Leukemia just called. Considering she NEVER calls, I thought the worst.... .... She's in remission!!! Her blood counts went from over 200k 2 weeks ago to 5k today! She goes back for a check up in 6 weeks to see how it's going. If it all stays the same, they just have to come up with a "maintenance" plan. Thank you for sharing good news.

Really nice day here: 55° and good sun. Lost more snow and dried more mud. Got some outside work done, too. Still have goodly drifts (some over 3’) but mostly ground showing. Almost got the Rhino stuck a couple of times. Jack, riding in the back, thought it was great fun. (It’s kind of him to let me use his Rhino.) We’ve got mid 60s coming up in the forecast for early next week. I can hardly wait.

I've spent the past 7 hours assembling a kitchen island/cabinet thing. My knees are not happy with me. I needed to get this done so I can get the kitchen decluttered and somewhat organized. The cabinet and countertop shortage in this house has created some problems.

Had a good day at the pipe club! Back at our old place to meet at, and the tobacconist is really a great guy. A private room for us to meet at, excellent service and a great choice of libations. We are truly blessed. When we distributed the tobaccos and pipes from our recent windfall, it happened on a day when we lost a good friend and charter member. As it was announced that day, we kept his portion of what he would have received, and several others took from their grab bags and donated tobacco. Spartacus handled selling all of the aged premium tobaccos, and today we were able to present the widow (also a charter member) with a little bit of over 4K in cash to help out. Not a king's ransom by any measure, but in instances like this, there are always unforeseen costs borne by those that lay a loved one to rest. She showed up with their kids, (all adults) and we had a great time with them as they enjoyed some fine cigars. And, I smoked some Stonehaven from 2012 that was part of our benefactor's cellar, Solani silver from the same year....it was a great time of fruitful conversation, camaraderie, and friendship. The state of the Pipesmoker's Union is good in our little corner of the world.

Had to work today so I missed the meeting. Glad to hear that.
I got my Warhammer Horus Heresy models in the mail today so I am currently working on not gluing my self to a tank,

I am a retiree of ABF, I left on great terms but even if I had not, I would recommend them. It is a great service.
FWIW… you can ship anything you want, it is not audited, once you put the bulkhead up it is locked in for the trip. Not a knock… abiding by the contract is not a bad thing.

Supply run day.. Only 35 days since my last run. Of course they only had one check-out lane working and wouldn’tyaknowit the shopper ahead of me had the most spectacularly overloaded cart I have ever seen. But loaded well, systematically and skillfully. A nice looking blonde lady. I live in a part of the country where nobody thinks it’s weird or rude to strike up a conversation with a fellow shopper.
“I bet you don’t shop every week.” “Ha! For sure. A month at a time.” “Sandhiller.” “Yep. You, too, from the looks of your cart.” “Yep. I noticed the big stack of pizzas. Boys?” “Yes! Teenagers.” “So why aren’t they here to help you with that load?” “They’re home catching up on fencing.”
Sorta makes my trip to town a more pleasant chore. I like where I live. Plus, almost 40 miles each way and no traffic at all. I think earlyish Sunday morning is my new supply time.

Mostly the Hispano population and Native people are open and friendly, even the Vatos and Wannabe Gangsters will take a kind comment or humorous remark. One of the most engaging conversations I had was with a Vato recovering from being shot three times with a .38 Special, left abdomen, and was a "Wanted Fugitive from Justice". We had a chat about shot placement, hospital procedures for gun trauma, the Poh-lease in general, among other topics. Now, the anglo women newcomers can be difficult. They would sooner Pepper Spray me as have a conversation. The Gringo males mostly just grunt.

Like Charlie, I also made a supply run. I'm less than 5 minutes from every store I need, so distance isn't an issue; my dislike of crowds is. So, I don't go more often than necessary, either. And if you're gonna go on Sunday, here, you better go less than an hour after the churches let out. In addition to getting groceries, I took a look at a few mowers and grills.

I've spent the past 7 hours assembling a kitchen island/cabinet thing. My knees are not happy with me. I needed to get this done so I can get the kitchen decluttered and somewhat organized. The cabinet and countertop shortage in this house has created some problems. Adding more cabinets will not reduce the clutter. The clutter expands to fill the available space. I have been trying unsuccessfully to disprove this for the past 50 years.

You are thinking about Bob.
I never make supply runs...my wife overdoes that...You could not fit can of tomato paste in the cupboards, a bottle of mustard in the fridge, or a tub of ben and Jerry's in either freezer. Today I wanted to open a jar of green olives stuffed with jalapenos, but if I did...no room in the fridge. I am not kidding one bit.
My wife comes from Mormon stock, her grandma went through the great depression....I married her grandma's clone, one generation removed.
She is at REI, I hope she doesn't bring some prepper dehydrated stuff home...we are good.

Can't go anywhere without spending an amount of time in conversation >\= to the time of the actual errand.

I don’t know… she abandoned Mormonism and went full on renegade. When confronted with reality, she adopted Protestant doctrine. But.. the DNA inherent from the previous life is not a bad thing… whenever I had an unexpected departure from working, the “storehouse” mindset has served us well. That component of survival really helps take the pressure off in a “ just on time” delivery of the modern retail model that is now the norm. Some -times I get pissed when I open a cupboard/ fridge/freezer my when articles follow gravity… then I realize that I am truly blessed. The other end of that scale is not a good place to be.

Spent the afternoon searching for papers which must be returned to central control ASAP. My application for a tiny pension from Bank of America, so long ago. Oh, what do I do with things? Did I already sign and return? Senior citizen mental problems again.
