Recently my son was rear ended in his Armada for a second time… two weeks after getting it back from the collision repair facility.
The first time he was rear ended, it was from a responsible party that was insured, claim taken care of.
The second time it was by a gamer boy living in moms basement, he admitted that he Jerry rigged the brakes because they were garbage, of course he has no insurance and he has constant excuses on why he cannot come up with any money.
The good part, a researcher for judge Judy saw my son’s small claim filing and asked if he would agree to fly to LA and let her arbitrate the case, all expenses paid, he is paid for the appearance and is guaranteed that he will be paid the full damages.
Judge Judy is going to rip gamer boy a new one.😂

A great speech by a great man. Sad to mention this but we are likely the last generation which holds this day in honor.

“ That's incredible, Charlie! Is there any way of finding out when the episode will be on TV? I want to see this.”
As soon as I find out a date of airing, I will post it here.
As for Dwight Eisenhower, he has always been a towering figure to me. In grade school we had a field trip to his home and library in Abilene Kansas.
His farewell speech is ever so relevant now as it was when he delivered it.

Ed mentioned how the haze of Canadian wildfire smoke was affecting the air quality in his town of Batavia in upper NY state. We have he same problem here as the smokey haze is being funneled across Lake Erie, over the Cleveland area, and down towards us. The wind doesn't help much to disperse the haze, but I think the air quality is supposed to get better here in a few days.

I have the utmost respect for those that served in Vietnam and heeded the call, but I have the utmost disrespect for those that engineered our involvement in that war.
Amazing that in so few years after IKE warned us of the Industrial Military Complex that we did so.
It put my family on a hellish trajectory that had profound negative consequences… my father was doing well pre-Vietnam, but after 2 or three tours, it went to hell.
It is sad that to the larger population, so much of that nonsense has never come to light.
Afghanistan was another mistake, my son served there but the cost is incalculable…we need to be more reticent to allow the industrial complex to define the mission.

We’ve had a good bit of that down on the Plains as well. Usually our air quality gets the highest ratings. A little off lately.

I had just heard this song on the radio so it was fresh in my mind ... Peter, Paul & Mary for those that didn't get the reference. I know the song well, Darin. I don't really mention this because no one asks, but I'm a USN Vietnam veteran and was assigned to a ship that ran combat missions along the coast of North Vietnam from the DMZ to just outside of Haiphong Harbor . We always operated with two other ships and we'd fire on pre-arranged targets, and always at night. After hitting our targets, we would then turn and head out to deeper sea in the Gulf of Tonkin at full speed. The North Vietnamese shore guns would open fire and I can still remember the sound of the shells exploding around us in the air, in the water, and of the shrapnel hitting the ship. We never took a direct hit, but it was the most frightening time of my life. It seems so long ago, but now I'm an old man and sometimes think back to those Navy days.

I ponder why young people, kids, feel free to call older folk by their first name, without permission. A girl, maybe 17, at the vets does this to me, automatically. While not stuffy (I think I’m not anyway) I find this symptomatic of a national diminution of respect and dignity. I would never have dared to call an older person by their first name without specific permission. How does that work where others live?

Afghanistan was 22 months of my life I’ll never get back. I lost six soldiers in one day, not counting the many wounded, and it still haunts me today. Now that I’m retired. I can rant for hours (if not days) but it’s not worth going down that rabbit hole. Yesterday we celebrated D Day, and the greatest generation in our history (not to mention my wife’s birthday). I’m glad we haven’t forgotten the countless sacrifices made by those who followed. I’m proud to have made the Army my career and, in hindsight, would have been prouder if I’ve NEVER had to fire my weapon in anger.

And henceforth you shall be “Colonel.” There were quite a few retired military men in my childhood. One had been with Pershing on the hunt for Villa. Another had spent years in the Philippines prior to WW2. If at 10 I had called Colonel Harper “Louis” my dad would have skinned me.

Yes, when I got back from S Asia I went to my Grandfsthers rice farm. It was strange not to look for gun emplacements on the levees. My uncle who fought from Africa to Germany came and walked the levee with me, told me his stories he had never told, we bonded as only combat veterans can. I did my duty but I did not like the rich man’s war. I ain’t no Senators Son.
